Okay, I have a PS2 Slim (V12) and I bought Swap Magic v 3.6 . Since I don't have a DVD Burner, my friend is burning the games for me.

He burned MVP Baseball 2005. I can enter the game, I have a profile, but the loading time are long and the loading just before a game kinda freezes. I don't know why? It can't be the DVD, because it's clean. It's a BenQ, DVD-R. He told me it's a good brand. Is it a good brand (for the PS2) or I need other DVDs? The strange thing is that the color is red (when I start the DVD after removing the Swap Magic DVD) but the game is running...

So, to have the game running well, what are the recommended brands (and the DVD type (+ or -)) and what is the recommended burning speed?

I wanted to know also if having Swap Magic really affects the PS2, more precisely the laser?

Thank you!

EDIT: I really don't know.... He told me it's a BenQ DVD-R. He burned the game at 4X. What's wrong now?! Why isn't the game working?

Hey! Come on. Help me.

I cleaned the lens with a Q-Tip and Rubbing Alcohol (like some said) and it's still not working.

Now what's the problem.

I think I'll ask for a refund cause this shit doesn't work.

Use Quality Media I use
Verbatim dvd+r

(By using +r media you can change the booktype (using dvd decrypter)
To dvd-rom. Also newer model ps2 reads +r better.

***** BURN AT NO MORE THAN 2X****** <-----------(IMPORTANT)

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list.
Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:

MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

Yeah!

That's what I thought. I'm gonna buy him some Verbatim, but are you sure it's +R... coz I heard other people say that +R are not that good for the PS2 :S That's a "grey" zone (like we say in french).

Okay, thank you!

I really don't know what to do. I don't want to return the Swap Magic back. I want to keep it but I want it to work.

I just tried MVP Baseball 2005. I heard people having problems with it while some are saying the game is running normally (DAMN :( ). I really don't know what to do.

I will buy new DVD, probably Verbatim, coz it's a trusted brand. But DVD+R or DVD-R?

I already cleaned the lens. It did nothing. All my original games are running normally, but MVP is pretty slow. I took a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol, but do you need to put a lot of alcohol on the Q-Tip or just a lil' bit... (that may be the cause of my problem, maybe?!).

As you see, I'm desperate. I'll try other games with the same DVD and see what's going on.

But if someone has an answer to my problem... then tell me! :P

Thank you!

Your media and burn speed are the problem.
Did you look at the link i gave you?
Benq are NOT good for ps2 games.
I use +r myself.(Verbatim or Fujifilm)
Older ps2's cant read it though.
But newer ps2 read +r better than -r.
It all depends on your version ps2.

I will even show you!!!

I have the latest one.. V12 (bought in late march 2005).

I will try again with DVD+R BenQ. If it doesn't work, at least I will know that the BenQ are not good for PS2.

I have a question.

I have a backup DVD of MVP Baseball 2005 that is not working (as I explained earlier). Instead of redoing the same step over again (rebuild it again....) can I just copy the backup on another DVD (a DVD+R this time to see it if works with +R)? Will it work? Cause if it works, it will take less time to do it (instead of redoing the same process all over again)

Thank you!

If your still using Benq media it wont work -r or +r.
ps2 games are different than movies or data.
They are accessed differently and more often than the others.
You need High quality DVD media to make good ps2 backups.
YOU ALSO SHOULD BURN AT NO MORE THAN 2X SPEED

Very few games need to be re-built.(only dvd9 and some EA games)
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/156785 <-HOW TO REBUILD DVD9 GAMES
I dont have that game,
but here is the method I use.
(It would take the same time to copy an original as a backup).
I would NOT copy the backup because you cant verify it works.

Dvd Decrypter
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/dawnload.cfm?mirror=0&software_id=298

1. Take the ps2 game put it in the dvd rom or dvd burner, your choice.

2. open the dvd decryptor program then go to to tool bar and hit MODE>ISO>READ. Then choose the correct dvd drive that the game is in as the "source". Also choose where you want the files to be stored on the pc hdd. THEN CLICK DECRYPT , or the huge graphical picture at the bottom of the program which makes it run. The game is now copying to your HDD. Take the game out when finished (it might take a while).

3. Go to the same tab in dvd decryptor and choose MODE>ISO>WRITE. This will then let you look for the files you just created in step 2. Select the file that you just created. (There is only 2 files creadted so pick the .mds) (The smaller file)Then click WRITE, make sure there is blank DVD in the drive.

Okay, then, what happen if I use a High-Quality-Media (suppose Verbatim DVD+R)?:

If instead, I copy MVP 2005 (currently on a BenQ DVD-R which isn't working well like I told before) on a Verbatim DVD+R (a brand that works 100% of the time), will it work?

Thank you

I have just traded my launch PS2 in for a slim version. I was using a backup of Devil May Cry 3 on a Memorex -R and it worked fine on the older PS2. I used the slide tool and SM 3.3. When I got the slim, I did the tape mod, but my Memorex copy didn't load past the Dolby screen. I know it was a working copy because I was on mission 3 on my old system. I tried another copy I had on a Verbatim and it did the same thing. I took my Memorex, which I know worked and copied it onto a Taiyo Yuden TYG01 disk I have and now it plays flawless. Every game I have burned since then I have used my TYs and had no problems. Get on supermediastore.com and buy some real media, I suggest the 100 pack value TY disks since they are around $27 most of the time. Every single one I have burned with no problems. I always burn at 1x.

You might also want to splurge and drop $100 bucks on your own burner. Best Buy ussually has rebates going on for the newest Pioneers.

that EA sports game may need a fix for swapmagic.
http://www.ps2nfo.com
To verify this try coping a DIFFERENT game (NON-EA)using the methods I posted.
Trying one game will leave you grasping at straws.

If the other game works you know you need to patch the backup.

Good luck :)
