Ok i've just brought a slim PS2 (my old PS2's laser burnt out) and have been playing a backup of the PSX Chrono Cross but i've found that no matter what kind of disc its burnt on and at what speed it still has trouble reading it (takes ages to load and makes lots of unhealthy noises) and this isnt good for the laser, dont wanna burn this one out too.

The CD's i'm using are Verbatim and Maxell and i burn at very low speeds and i even defragged my hard drive so the data is burnt better on the disc without gaps but i still had the same problems.

I found a solution that makes the disc read perfectly each and every time it loads any data. All i did was change the options on the Playstaytion driver by pressing triangle at the startup screen from 'Standard' 'Disc speed' and 'Texture' to 'fast speed' and 'smooth'. The extra spped the disc spins at must have something to do with this success.

Heres my question;
Can you save these option changes at all or do you have to toggle them each time you restart your PS2? as they reset to default.
