DVD is 7.424 gig movie

DVD shrink encode disc =18 mins /13secs
(started at 3,200 peaked at 7,100 KB/s dropped to 6,800 KB/s with my older lite-on 811

DVD shrink encode disc =19 mins /11secs
(started at 3,400 peaked at 6,800 dropped to 6,300 KB/s with my new NEC 3520a (flashed with 3.23)
-------------------------------------------
DVD decrypter took 16 mins / 35secs
started at 4,200 peaked at 9,600 fell to 5,100 KB/s with the NEC 3520a = 6.97 gig VOB movie files only

This seems kinda slow and I used a flash to remove the riplock on the NEC but still seems slow.

system is an AMD 3500+ @ 2.55 gig, DFI NF4 SLI-D , Raptor HD , 1 gig OCZ ram , Liteon or NEC burners.

Any tricks to encode/rip faster???

--------------------------------------------------------
***edit***
did a quick test with a DVD I burned and DVD decrypter started at 9,700 and peaked at 18,000 KB/s then varied on the last gig of ripping. DVD was 4.57 gig

need to speed up ripping dual layer suggestions??

Your times are right on. Only thing that rips faster for me is if I rip w/ my Plextor 716. With the newest firmware the drive is in DMA 4, most DVDRoms and burners are in DMA 2. I think I can rip a copy protected DVD9 in around 10-12 min.

Here is an article that addresses your issue, your Nec is mentioned in an example of ripping speeds.

well Iam only a tad bit slower than the faster rip so I guess I will have to live with my NEC ripping kinda slow vs doing very nice burns.
