Need Help with Nero and making DVD's

For a long time I was able to burn my backup copies of DVD movies with ease using DVD shrink and Nero. Then I started having problems. So I bought a new Liteon DVD burner and got Nero 6. Now I can't get one DVD burned successfully that I can read. So far I have tried burning with DVD Shrink where it automatically uses Nero, I have tried using Nero Burning rom and burning the Video files manually and I have even burned an ISO file with DVD Decrypter. Each time the DVD won't playback and isn't even recognised in the Drive !!!.
Can someone please tell me what to try next !

hi
change media dnupdate the drive! maybe update drive first with firmware it may read discs then if not get more media a good brand

@rusty56, post relevant section of Nero log, minus serial number which usually begings with 1A21 or similar. Even successful burns will probably have telltale clues in the log, such as crap media, too high a burn speed, firmware etc etc

Hi Creaky
Can you tell me if Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD disks have the manf no 94495 ?? There are a lot of different options for Verbatim disks , I am not sure which ones to try .

@rusty56 - Nero log is in c:\Program Files\ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.txt (don't forget to chop serial number). The log is appended to by all burns, good or bad, so you can copy/paste the bits you want.
as for Verbatim's (my fave media, but there are others that other ppl swear by), i swear by 8x datalifeplus, but as per my sig, i only burn at 4x. Even tho my setup is more than adequate & up to date, the 2 Verb's i burnt at 8x crapped out on me, ie when i used dvdinfopro (free download) to check the discs, they both failed the crc check (i think they had burnt 100% in Nero). I haven't seen any higher speed ones yet myself so am buying up as many 8x as i can afford at the moment.

and finally, (i post this a lot lately) here's my reasoniong for keeping to 4x (with v good media such as this you should be able to go higher speed once you're happy with everything working correctly but i don't mind the 15mins that 4x takes) -

This is one of the things i dislike about burning DVDs - a burn that's gonna skip or freeze on playback should fail a burn, not only show up on a crc check. I still burn at 4x even with a very good setup and very good media as i've had hardly any failed burns with 500+ movies, but many skipping/freezing films upon playback (using crappy media). Even burnt 2 of my 8x Verbatim at 8x recently and had problems. You can download dvdinfopro to CRC check your discs after they're burnt. This may or may not show up CRC errors. For instance you can happily burn (at say 8x with 8x media and a fast PC setup) and have 100% burn, but crc check your burnt disc and may see crc errors. This would result in freezing or skipping.

This Nero Log doesn't make any sense to me , so if anyone can figure out what is wrong please let me know. I did manage to burn succesfully 2 movies so at least I know my Nero does work. I thought the problem may be that the size if the files were too large because the 2 disks that were burned successfuly were smaller movies than the ones that didn't work. But this log of the last movie I tried to burn seems to debunk that idea because it was re-authored to just the main movie and it still didn't work.

CMC Mag media - urghhh !, most ppl would say these are the absolute
pits....
DMA could probably do with being set on your other cd/dvd
drives; (it's set on the burner).

that's fine, but reminds me, it would be worth setting your target
size in DVD shrink, etc etc to say 4300MB thus avoiding the very
edge of discs (you're fine here, 3703MB but couldn't remember if we
mentioned that).

Hi Creaky
so you think it is the disks. They have HP's logo and details all over them. Funny how a file of this size produces a disk that my drive burns then won't read ???
How do you change the DMA setting from off to on ?? The only other drive I have is a CD-rom. The rest are virtual's I think created by Alcohol 120%. Maybe the old DVD-rom I replaced may be one of them .

Uninstalling Your Drive(s)
(1) Go to ?Control Panel?
(2) Double click on ?System?
(3) Click on ?Hardware? tab
(4) Click on ?Device Manager?
(5) Click on the ?+? beside IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers
(6) Right click on ?Primary IDE Channel?
(7) Then Click on ?Uninstall?
(8) Repeat steps 6 & 7 for each IDE Channel
(9) Then click on the little ?+? beside DVD/CD ROM Drives
(10) Uninstall your drives in the same manner as described in 6 & 7 above
(11) Exit out of Device manager and restart your system
(12) Let Windows install your drives automatically
