I have been trying to find a way to make backups of some DVDs that i have that have copyrights on them. I understand they are there for a reason but i know there has to be a way that i can make backups.

is this the first time you have tried to backup dvds?
if so all dvds are encrypted so you need to decrypt them by using either dvddecrypter or smartripper.
then read a lot of guides.
