Hi there, on Plextors media compatibility page for the 716SA they have Taiyo Yuden disks under the recommended section. They mention model numbers but not media ID codes.

Im wondering if my TYG01 media with GD000315 etched on the hub corresponds to any of the TY models onthis list and if so which one.

Taiyo Yuden
12X (4X ~ 12X)
DVD-R47TYA, DVD-R47PY5PA

Taiyo Yuden
8X (4X ~ 8X)
DVDR-V120TY, DVDR-D47TY, DVDR-V120TY5P, DVDR-V120TY10P, DVDR-V120AC5Y10P, DVDR-D47TY5P, DVDR-D47TY10P, DVDR-D47SC5Y10S

TY is quality media and many people take the rated speeds to be guidelines only. Some burners (like your Plextor), allow quality media to be burned at over the rated speed, so some folk are satisfied with TYG01 burned at 6x or even 8x, and with TYG02 up to 12X. The latest TYG03 media is rated at 16x.

I'm guessing, but I imagine the two TY figures quoted by Plextor relate to TYG01 and TYG02. The easiest way to tell is set up a burn with your disks and check the maximum speed you can select. In any event you will want to test the quality your burns (you can use plextools), and then decide on the burn speed/quality point that satisfies you.

I read about fake TyG02 media all the time. Is there a reputable site that would sell the real thing. I cant find them in stores and I would like to find a internet site I can trust. Anybody bought TYG02 8x recently. Please let me know.

@aland

supermediastore.com, rima.com, meritline.com, just to name a few places that carry AUTHENTIC Taiyo Yudens.

stay away from shop4tech since they sold me FAKE TY's in the past, just a suggestion, buy from them at your own risk.

hope that will get you started~ :)

rubs eyes...is creaky being moved over to support taiyo yuden blank media? lol as a new user of ty03 I think everyone should invest in these. I'm not in the UK but amazon sends your media to you in 7 days. I'll end this by chanting TY, TY, TY with a slight whisper of verbatim in the background.

to burn or not to burn that is the question
