TMPGEnc cannot open .avi file, unsupported?

I have an .avi file I am trying to convert using TMPGEnc, when I go to open the source file I get an error message saying it cannot open or is unsopported, any ideas what I am doing wrong.

Try this program instead.

Its alittle slow but converts almost any file so you can burn it to dvd.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd.cfm

Just make sure you select force NTSC 29.97 fps before you convert, or it won't work.
