Hi i just used WinAvi to convert an avi to dvd format.i burned it to dvd using nero.When i put it in my sony dvd player it said:Playback prohibited due to area limitations.Im in the usa if that helps.wth can i do about this?thanks in advance

There maybe a 'quick' way to do this but a longer way would be to run your dvd/or your dvd compliant files through Dvd Shrink or Dvd Decrypter and this should remove the region code, and adjust it to multiregion, then burn the files again to dvd which should then play in your player..................
Other ways include:
Multi region hack for your standalone
Run it through Ifoedit and just change the region code to 0
Either way you will have to burn another dvd again.

Thanks for fast response,i followed your advice,but now it keeps burning the individual TS_ files onto the dvd,And 1 time it gave all the ts files names with korean charcters.Im using folder-to-iso than DVD Decrypter to no avail.

I ran these movies through DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and set region code to all,made sure all the boxes were checked.I'm still getting same error on my stand alone.Any ideas?

It sounds like you will need to convert the original download to NTSC.
I have not done any conversions like that (in the UK), but I am sure someone will pop in and help you out, especially after this post it'll bump it up to the top of the list.
Some programs that'll probably do it are:
TMPGenc
CCE

Ok i think problem is due to pal/ NTSC as stated above.
I used TMPGEnc to change it to NTSC,now i have a a video file with no sound at all and a seperate winamp/sound file.
How do i compile this?

I think you will have to go back to your original source file 'avi' and compile that into MPEG2 then run it through TMPGEnc and convert to NTSC, this should render it correctly then.
I don't know the steps involved but if you have 2 streams at the moment, then BOTH streams need to rendered to NTSC or else the audio/video will be out of sync, therefore I would assume that if you convert your original AVI to MPEG2 NTSC then it will come out right.

right,both streams are converted to NTSC now.The next step is: which prog. to put them together?

divx to dvd.select force NTSC 29.97 fps.then run through shrink and burn with Nero.

Did all that game,now i have the words out of sync with the picture.Can i just leave /convert these to Divx and then play on a stand alone thats divx certified?that would be easier for me.

Hi there, I am having a similar problem but it's not with NTSC (edit: wait, I just used the IFO checker and it says PAL-- so maybe the other player plays both??). The DVD I created doesn't work on my Sony DVD-S325 (something like that) DVD player, but works on a friend's crappy Wal-Mart model. Can you believe that? But here at home, on my Sony, I get "Area Limitations." I used DVD Shrink to make it regionless, but no go. What can I do? What do I need to do to get it to be Sony compatible? Any help appreciated.

you have to change that PAL to NTSC, IFOEdit can do that. Check the link I have in my sig for converting PAL to NTSC, it should tell u how to do it.
