I HAVE CROSSED POSTED INTO THIS HARDWARE SECTIONS, AS THE GENERAL SECTION POST HAD NO RESPONSE!

Hi all. I'm in the process of putting a v12 system together and have a multitude of questions. I have done some v7, 8 and 9's, but things have changed a lot since then.

1. Has anyone done a laser fix on their v12 - it seems there are several versions out there and some simply kill consoles. The laser fix is suppossed to be a preventative measure - is it worth doing - does anyone have any experience on the issue?

2. I'm stuck between a DMS4 Pro and Lite. I would go for a Pro if there existed a USB Extreme elf I could successfully boot off of the chip's 2MB flash - has anyone done this or know anything about it?

3. Also, I plan on investigating this myself later today but, does anyone know if the bus speed of the v12 exceeds the USB2 rate? I'm wondering if a USB2 drive would bottleneck the v12's game loading, or if it's worth checking into?

I posted a question about laser problems on v12 ps2's in the general section as well, but nobody has responded to it. What the heck is this? What are all the folks on the forums doing??

I have spent some serious time browsing forums in search of answers. I have found a total of 6 different fixes for the V12:
* diode fix
* vandruden fix
* summ0ne fix
* slim fix (v1 to v4)
* Neo-Fix Xii (from neoasic.com)
* Neo-Fix Plus

I have come to the conclusion that the V12 will never be safe and that it is just a question of time before the laser dies. I gave up on the V12 and bought a V7 from playstation2repairsinc.com on eBay and sent it to socalmods.com for a DMS4 Pro.
The HD is a great way of saving the laser of your PS2, you can literally play games without ever using the laser (if you load your gamnes with WinHIIP). Of course there is no simple way to use a HD with a V12.

Thanks 'wb_hades'.

I actually went out and got a v7 myself as well from EBGames (used) and put a DMS4 Lite in it.

Works very well - I do recomend getting the Pro version though.

There is a ToxicOS secondary OS out there that does anything you'll ever want - has a patched version of HDLoader built right in - you won't be disappointed.

If you have any q's about it when it arrives email me - its a real pain in the ass getting straight answers about DMS4.

Yes, I thought about EBGames first but I had found terrible feedbacks (even on their own web site if I remember well !!!) on their used and so called refurbished units. playstation2repairsinc.com offers a one year warranty so that was the deciding factor for me plus I wanted to know in advance what version of PS2 I would get and what was its history.
