I need some discs rather quickly, so don't want to buy online. Can someone give me a list of branded dvd-r's that are made by Taiyo Yuden that I can walk into a store like Walmart or Circuit City and buy off the shelf? I know Fujitsu is one of them and I have heard that some Maxell and Imation are too. Any other brands? Thanks a lot!

Sony +1x-8x in the 50 pack spindles at staples were coding as Yuden000-T02's. Look for made in japan on those wrappers.Fuji are the same code for the japanese +1x-8x.

I didn't see any good sales except for best buy has tdk's on sale. Some of the dash's may be ty's,i'm not sure. They do use cmags in some of their plus format,i don't recommend the plus format for Tdk.

Maxell's are a little harder. Their dash 4x japanese yellowtops are made by ty and hitachi. The ty's are harder to locate.MXL-RG02 were the codes on the majority of my yellowtops, made in japan. Still very good.

The maxell +8x,the spindles that say made in japan on the upc code are made by Hitachi. The taiwanese maxell +8 are also very good.

Which format you looking for?

Fuji -r wouldn't be a bad choice either, chance of getting TY, prodisc, and ritek. Look for those made in japan.

im pretty much going with what saugmon suggested, i have quite a few of the fuji and sony that are coded YUDEN000-T02, both of mine are the 8x dvd+r's, i rarely use dvd-r for my particular backups.
maxell's are very good as well, however, it's much more difficult to find the TY ones if that is the only criteria you are looking for~

to find Ty's locally, one thing to make sure of is find the spindles that say, "Made in Japan" near the barcode...that is at least a good start for your purpose of finding branded store bought TY's. obviously, the made in taiwans are not going to be TYs, but that is common sense~ :)

good luck for your search on Tys...best of luck to you

If I was wanting some good -r media I would of course buy some TY's or verbatums online or maxell's locally but I only use +r so I can booktype them dvd-rom. I also would have to agree with saugmon (although I hate to admit it hehe).:D

i don't recommend buying Maxel b/c i just bought a 25 pk of Maxwell 1x-8x DVD-R. The code came up as MXL-RG03 made me think the disc is very good. Then after i burnt my patched Chaos Theory on it, the game wouldn't load. Thanks so much 4 wasting my money, crap discs.

Thanks for the replies guys. I wanted to get the discs today and it was getting late in the day without replies to the post, so I took a gamble. At Costco I got a spindle of 50 TDK DVD-R's for $21...I figured elsewhere I might get 25 for that price but not 50, so went for it. If they didnt work out it wasnt going to hit the pockets too hard. 5 out of 5 perfect burns so far, so I'm happy. I have a pretty picky DVD-RAM drive (Matshita) so i'm glad they are working ok. Thanks for the sggestions though, I have taken notes for the next time I shop.

don't shop at meritline or supermediastore, they have horrible Fedex shipper. They lost my package last time and also they left my package front of my apartment last week. What an irresponsible shipper.
