Anyone else had problems with this disc. It plays in my dvd player just fine but when I put it in the computer it doesn't even register that a disc is present. I am hoping that it was just this particular disc. Haven't had a problem with any other disc yet. I use DVD decrypter and NERO.

Part of the DVD Specification for all DVDs is that they play in your computer. If the disc won't play then it may be defective or your PC may have a problem. Do other movies play in your computer? Can you get another copy of this movie?

You know, I thought it might be defective so I tried in in my portable dvd player and it worked perfectly so I see no reason why my MAD DOG16 would have a problem, I also tried it in another computer to no avail. I have no problem with other movies, I've seen Lemony Snicket and Blade Trinity since. I was just wondering if anyone else encountered a problem with Phantom or if I just got a bad disc. The disc was brand new, guess I'll have to buy another one.

Your probably have a bad disc - I used AnyDVD w/ Nero Recode. No problems and no special protection.
Remember you shouldn't be backing up 'rental' copies! :)

I also have the same problem with it. Tried DVD Decrypter and Shrink, but as you said, my computer doesn't even recognize it. I'll try to get ahold of AnyDVD, but don't know why that would work either in this situation. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before many more join in with this problem.

It appears that your problem is a "bad" original disc. There isn't a program that will magically work with a bad disc.

Maybe there were a few bad discs that got out because I got another disc and it worked like a charm.

Hi All.

Just chiming in. Currently backing up my copy of Phantom. Initally tried just DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 and now I just got an error with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 6% into the process.

I've never tried binkie7's method. Thinking.

Anyone else have an idea on how to get this bad boy burned?

DawnKing ,
Try cleaning the disk real well and try again. If it fails again it is a bad press and you need to take it back to exchange it.
I used DVDDecrypter and had no problem what so ever

I have AnyDVD 5.1.1.1 working on my system now for the first time. (I assume it works in the background) and then I started Nero Recode 2.

25% into the analyzing process I get a "failed to read from the file VTS_01_1.VOB. Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Wow. I've run out of ideas....I hope a guru can help me...I like trying to figure out puzzles but this one is kicking my butt at the moment.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a bad disc (CRC error). Try cleaning it.
I would also try latest Decrypter just in case.

Check that.....I forgot to look at the surface of the DVD....some pretty good finger prints. Will clean and try again.

General question (probably asked before)..can a DVD play okay but be a bad copy for burning? RE: 'bad press'

thanks binkie7..... in the works now.

Yes a DVD can usually play fine but ripping fails usually due to errors in/on the disc itself (some seeable some not).

WOw....I am such a rookie..LOL.

Those finger prints look like the problem! I wonder why a DVD will play okay when a little dirty but be a problem when attempting to copy? Anyone have an idea why? Curious.

The analyzing went fine now....currently at the beginning of my recode (13% so far).

Thanks you Car.Mike, crowy, geestar20, binkie7.

I had been thinking of giving AnyDVD a try and now I have it as another tool.

DawnKing ,
The DVD Player is a little more forgiving than a computer that is trying to read the disk. Any problems w/ the disk will show up on the computer but probably not on the Player. This is why we suggest that you clean the disk before you try to read it. If it fails after cleaning it is probably because of bad scratches or a Bad Press by the Movie Sudio

Got it! Lesson well learned!

I have heard the 'knowledgeables' on afterdawn.com always suggesting to give the disk a good cleaning but, until now, I didn't realize a couple light fingerprints could cause such trouble....

Well, other then in a crime! LOL

Thanks again.

The fingerprint bit - good one.
I'm assuming you're past encoding and are now successfully burning.

Yep! I'm torching the disk now...got my welding goggles on and 5% into it with Nero.

AnyDVD was in the background....but really I think two of my standbys (DVD Shrink and Nero)could have done it alone, but I do not know if AnyDVD helped out at all.

Today was my first experience with AnyDVD, I basically let AnyDVD do it's thing without any tweaking. I do not know if AnyDVD will do things better or much differently at this point.

25% into the burn now.

Completed and working well on a stand alone DVD player.
