im sure youve heard this many times before but i just installed slimtools into my slim ps2. installation was reasonably easy. all the pieces seem to be in place perfectly. however i load swap magic then try booting my backup but no luck. it says "not a valid ps2 disc", "insert valid disk" or something like that.

i used dvd decrpyter burnt at 2x on ritek g04 dvd-r. anyone got any ideas. can anyone help me.

thanx in advance.

Try these two things
1.) Will your PS2 boot originals with the slimtools attached?
Try loading in an original PS2 game with the slimtool installed. If the games won't load, you might have improperly installed them. "Improperly" means that the sensors aren't being covered. Sorry to say this, slimtools/fliptops aren't made exact, and may not work as fully as described in the advertisements.

If it won't boot originals with the slimtools, remove them, and see if they'll boot. If that doesn't work, you might have a defective PS2.

2.) Your media, your PS2 might not like the media you're using. You're using DVD-R? My Slim PS2 refuses to read that type of media, I can only use DVD+Rs on it. So, here's the definitive test on it : Burn a DVD movie on the DVD-R, if the movie will boot up, your PS2 will read that media. If you burn a movie onto a DVD-R and it works in your standard dvd player/computer, but doesn't work on your PS2, it's most likely that your PS2 can't read that media. If DVD-R doesn't work for you, try DVD+R. If not, then try different brands.

That should solve your problems.

thanx for ur answer. but for some reason the backup i made works now. the first time i tried it wouldn't read sayin "insert valid ps2 disc" but i tried again and it works flawlessly. strange but im not complaining. i also tried dvd+r that worked too.

jus wandering will using ritekg04(-r)disks damage the laser. ppl say bad media will damage/burn the laser out. is the media im using good?

Yeah, Ritek's supposed to be one of the best manufacturers of media around. And yes, bad media will wear your laser our faster.
However, don't worry, laser wear is perfectly natural in ANY hardware that uses one.

I use HP Invent DVD+R disc and it works fine. (dvd+r 8x 4.7GB/120min Video 1x/2.4x/4x/8x speed) Got it at Office Max 25 disc for $10. Works pretty good. That's what happen to me too. I tried to play a back up of Midnight Club II and it said,"Not a valid PS2 disc" and "Insert a bigger TOC disc". It works find after a while of trying.
