I just hate Microsoft. XP Sucks. Really Bad.
XP is just a cheap, crappy, lazy, and sad attempt at imitating Mac OS X. Plus have you seen how low rez windows xp is? Like the whole os is kinda grainy! How Pathetic!

actually, i dunno, baabaa. i've never really had the chance to work with Linux, and i don't plan on learning until it's easier for it to work with MS apps and games. but, from what i've read/seen/heard, Linux in general is the best OS and that version seems pretty decent.

Macs are for the artsy fartsy types who like the idea of a big pretty looking ornament on their desk. They suck for gaming, you can't upgrade them and the software selection is weak.
Complain all you want about Gates but Steve jobs is the dummy that refused to license the Apple OS to Gates when asked to way back when so now we have Microsoft :)

There are VERY pretty though!

Spot on, but they are still VERY pretty!
In the UK there are many Universities that are Mac exclusive. My mate has a G4, it is a very nice piece of kit, & quiet to boot! I would love a Mac, but as the great man before said " they suck for gaming."
I do not know of any Macs that can use SLi technology. Whether it will ever happen is very doubtful. Probably because they were not really made for extreme gaming, where framerate etc is essential. Mac technology does not have the same widespread resources that windows related apps/software writers can provide, ergo, it is not as fast moving. They are extremely good at what they are designed for & are not very prone to viruses.
I am also not too keen on windows products, but they are widely available & you can do lots of tweeks & is fairly versatile.
Open source coding is all very well, but I think that you need to have a basic understanding of software & how it works.
My brother taught himself C++ (along with a large amount of PC knowledge does not go amiss) & along with many others is a software writer/engineer. He considers his job title to be rather vague. Especially as he went solo!
I have found that if you keep on top of your PC, you should get few problems with it. I have found that most of my PC probs are self-inflicted, as I do like to mess around with it. Fortunately, I have managed to sort each problem out, learning on the way!

I'm a fan of both to tell you the truth... I like XP because its really user friendly...I hate it for the same reasong though. I love, love, love linux because of everything it has to offer.. there is so much you can do with it...its amazing...right now I'm running windows (my laptop dual boots) and its ok...not much to look at but its ok
now Linux rules... My other boot is to Ubuntu running the KDE GUI. I love it...everything is available for you to tweak...the only prob is that installing can be a pain in the ass...Have you ever tried to install Java on a linux box...its a nightmare...

@ Auslander
I haven't used Linux but I like the idea and I've been keeping up with the developments. The various distros have come a long ways towards ease of use and I may build a simple box for Linux testing. I don't like what I've read about DRM or possible DRM attatched to Longhorn so I'll bide my time and see if there is indeed any DRM crap before migrating to it. If there is DRM then I'll wait until XP's no longer viable and take the Linux plunge.
I was a bit harsh on Macs earlier but I get tired of the Mac fanatics trashing Windows the way they do. Every OS has it's faults and XP is no exception but overall it's a good, solid OS and, in my estimation, the best Windows to date. Just as pulsar noted, with minimal maintenance and half a brain Windows will run problem free.
Macs are good machines but they have definite limitations for many, many folks. Gamers, tweaker, modders, overclockers and those who want the most for their budget are left out in the cold when it comes to Macs. There's precious little versatility either.
- Want to build an inexpensive media server? Get a PC.
- Want a killer gaming desktop? Get a PC.
- Want a small, quiet home theater rig? Get a PC.
- Want a compact LAN party rig? Get a PC.
- Want to upgrade a few components for better performance on a budget? You can only do it with a PC.
- Like to overclock? Get a PC.
- Want a platform with the most available software and apps? Windows is it.
- Need something that would go really nice with all that new Ikea furniture? Get a Mac ;)
