I just burned a 22 minute video file onto my DVD+RW for testing (just started burning dvd's) and it burned perfectly, following steps from the guides on the forum and bbmayo's guide. I took my avi file and used VSO Divx to DVD and it came out, but their is an audio lag, but i still wanted to test it, so i re-authored it using dvd shrink and burner it with dvd decryptor. The burn completed and it played in my dvd writer, then I tried it on my computer dvd drive and it worked, however I tried on my two home dvd-standalone players and they both didn't recognize the disc. Any solutions?

Sometimes there are compatability issues with stand-alone players and rw media. What is the brand and media code of your rw media? You can use this free proggy to find the media code. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

Thanks. I'm at work right now, so can't tell you what the exact specs are, but I got the 4x Ritek DVD+RW media (25 pack) from supermediastore.com. I also got the Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R (100 pack). I burned a movie last night and it worked perfectly. It played in my living room DVD player (GPX model) but not in my Pioneer DVD player (usually doesn't play most disc's I get at blockbuster anyways) <--- old peice of shit, haha, anyways, I got a new question ...

1) Does it usually take around 4 1/2 to 5 hours to make one DVD? I'm using DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor. I check it with DVD Shrink (click on open disc, then backup), then it analyses the disc for about an hour and half, then begins encoding (making the iso image file) for about 4 hours (depending on movie length, size) ... then it finally burns it to my DVD-R disc (usually takes 5 to 6 minutes).

Is there a way I could speed things up? Let me know, thanks.

No, it should not take anywhere near 4-5 hours to re-encode a DVD. Maybe you have an old (slow) computer. If your computer is reasonably fast, something is set wrong. My computer is a year and a half old with a 2.4 GHZ processor. Nero Recode (which is basically the same as DVD Shrink) takes 10-60 minutes to shrink a DVD, depending on how much compression is needed and what quality setting I use. A full disk on standard quality takes about 15 minutes. If I use the high quality setting, that changes to about 30 minutes, and if I check "advanced analysis", the time doubles. (I have never noticed any benefit from the "advanced analysis" mode, and I can't say for certain that the high quality mode looks any better than standard, but it probably does.) That's in addition to the actual burning time. With Nero, I often use the "burn on the fly" option so it burns as it's recoding.

If you are using "advanced analysis", try unchecking that option, and your processing time will be cut almost in half. I would also disable "high quality" (if that's even an option in Shrink). Of course the best way to speed things up if you can afford it, is to get a faster computer. Good luck.

memfrican,

That is a bit excessive on encode times. What are some specs on your pc, cpu and memory?

Time is not a factor for me as I like the best reproduction quality possible. I seldom use DVD Shrink anymore and usually use RB/CCE which takes even longer than shrink (with all quality options checked). Personally I can tell a difference between shrink with and without quality options and would recommend advanced analysis and quality enhancements. Your time for the burn doesn't really jive. If burning at 8x should take 8-12 min and burning at 4x should take 12-15 min. I recommend burning at 4x or slower to increase compatibility and decrease the chance of write errors.

My backups usually take around 2-2.5hrs depending on length of the movie and how many extras I keep. After editing, my vidio folder is usually 7-7.5 GB. I like to use dvdremake leaving a functional menu, deleted/extended scenes, bloopers, and sometimes the making of. I remove trailers, previews, and warning screens.

Mort, sorry don't want to double post, but my other thread has become similar to this one, and I want to redirect you to that one. My PC specs are on that page. Thanks for your help.
