I am using Maxell DVD +R's that will only be burnt at 6X and 8X. I backed up Gran Turismo 3 at 8X just fine, but am having trouble with World Snooker Championship 2005. I used Alcohol 120% set at lowest possible (6X) and it said invalid speed, using 3.2X. Then I used DVD-Decrypter set at 1X and it proceeded to actually burn at 6X.

This game boots past the blue border with SM 2.0, but then goes to a screen with 2 memory cards and says "reading disc"... then it says "insert PS2 disc".

I don't think its the +R because GT3 works with it, so my 3 yr old PS2 works with them. But also I used ps2_pal2ntsc_yfix_source v1.07 to patch from PAL to NTSC, I'm wondering if thats it. 2004 is said to work with this patch, but I don't know about 2005.

it's because the disk to burnt to doesen't support 1x. Open DVD Decrypter then set the mode to ISO>WRITE
Insert your DVD-R and look at the right-hand panel. Look at supported speeds and burn at the slowest supported speed.

I dont think its necessary to burn at 1x speed, I backed up World Championship Snooker 2005 with Maxell DVD-R media at 4x speed with DVD Decrypter and it works. What are you saying the disks only support 6x & 8x speeds? If so I suggest you buy some others as 4x speed works best, for me anyway.
