I wasn't able to figure out how to use Alcohol, WinRAR, DVD-Decrypter, or Nero to replace a file in an ISO so I made a data disc with Nero, omitting the file I wanted replaced and adding another file instead. Will this work with the PS2?

Its a game that I patched from PAL to NTSC that didn't boot so I replaced the file that is actually patched. (there is a .bak file made by the program so I just removed the .bak extension and put it back with the rest of the data) The disc itself might not be a 1:1 copy though since its not a direct image, is this true?

*follow-up* ACK! I got the red border this time. At least the patched ISO gave me a blue border and then went to the "insert PS2 disc" screen. Anyone know what this means?
