hi...ive been reading through this forum and i followed the instructions on how to backup a dvd game (specifically espn mlb 2k5) using dvd decryptor, burning at 1x. i wasted about 6 dvds (dvd-r no name brand) and none of them could be read by the ps2 (i have a magic 3.1 i think). i recently bought some memorex dvd-r and it worked but the game skips or freezes for seconds at a time, replays/cutscenes play multiple times (doesnt happen with the original), and the audio stutters...it would be playable for some people but im impatient so to me its not fun to play..

the original game plays flawlessly, so i dont think its a problem with the burning/copying of the disc. im wondering if cleaning the lens with a q-tip and alcohol will help the reading of the disc?? i can hear the ps2 trying to read the backup disc whenever it stutters....

i also read in some posts today that memorex dvd-r's do not usually work properly for backing up games?! is this always true? if so, i wasted 15 bucks for those 25 dvds......ahhhhh!!

sorry for the long post! any help would be greatly appreciated

TheHit, What's up yes Memorex Disc Are Sh$t For The PS2 But Are OK For Movies So Just Go Out And Get Some Verbatim Disc And As For The Skiping And Freezeing Depending On What Version Ps2 You Have
You My Need R+ Not R-, If You Have A Slim Line R+ Is What You Need. From What you Wrote i Would say You Need R+ Disc That Should Stop All your Problems Write Back And Let Me Know. If you Want You Can P/M Me, Good Luck

thanks for the reply

no actually i have an older ps2 (version 4 i think)....i have used those no name brand dvd-r with a couple other games and they work fine surprisingly

and about the skipping, well its not constantly skipping or freezing. its a baseball game, so for instance everytime the ball is hit, it freezes for a few seconds and then works again...there are other small glitches too like the audio skipping....

im mean the game is playable but its just too slow for my likings, and it really shouldnt have these errors anyways

i think ill try some verbatim dvd-r or dvd+r maybe

will cleaning the lens help at all? or is the problem almost certainly the disc?

Skips in audio and video are usually caused by crappy disc, like no name brands and Memorex. I backed up that game on both TDK DVD-R 4X and Phillips DVD-R 8X discs, burned with either Nero or DVD Decrypter (can't remember which) but they both work flawless.
Better discs will give you better backups.
