Why not try burning at 4x to see if that helps. Verbatim is usually a very high quality disc but if your getting errors I would slow down

What programs are you using to backup and burn the dvd with? Are your dvd burners firmware up to date?

So if I understand you, you burn Verbatims at 4x with no problems but you burn TYs at 4x and you get errors, right? What other programs besides Nero are you using

wel after burnning about 10 verbatim at 4x i've got 2 more error's so i don't think its the speed if i use nero (most of the time i do 90%) and decrypter and shrink. The ty don't error they just skip in middle??? I think its the Verbatim there the ones that look like movie film.

Try slowing your burns down to 2x. May be compatability problem with +r media and your set-top player. Try some -r media or booktype your +r media dvd-rom if your burner is capable. What make is your dvdrw?
Edit: What is the media code of your verbatums? Use this free utility. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

Media shouldn't be the problem. You've got the good stuff. Doesn't get much (if any) better than that. Do you know who actually makes your HP drives? I'm pretty sure they're rebadged.

Note: look around the outside of the hub on your TY's for some letters and numbers and post those if you would. Could be fakes but I doubt it. Doesn't make any sense that you're having problems with 2 of the best medias. Makes me believe something else is the culprit.

I was wondering who actually makes your burners so I could determine if they are capable of bitsetting.

I wasn't concerned about the verbatums. I'm not sure about the TY's. I'll ask somebody that for sure knows.

@nascar

you got the REAL deal here..on both the Verbatims as well as the TY's...you can thank my good friend mort for bringing this to my attention~

the GDxxxxx signifies the 4x authentic TY's dvd-r

and on the verbatims, as long as the inner coding begins with ZCxxxxxxx you can bet they are the GOOD MCC coded ones, made in taiwan, but, nevertheless VERY good media~

i sincerely don't think that your media here is to blame, you got your hands on some of the best stuff out there. :)

while i am unfamiliar w/ HP drives, i can not offer you any more solid advice regarding your burners, i just can tell you about the authenticity of your media, you are OK there w/ the TY's and Verbs

good luck, mort is much better than i am with regards to bitsetting as well as burners, i know what works for me and the makes and models i personally use, but, i don't know much about HP made burners.

have a good one and keep at it, we will find the problem sooner or later.

forgot to add...also for genuine Verbatims, the 8x dvd+r's have a ZDxxxxxx inner coding, i believe the ZCxxxxx that you have are the 4x MCC002s dvd+r, i am 100% sure of this for YOUR media. i use almost solely 8x dvd+r, so, on MY Verbs, the inner coding begins with ZDxxxxxx and the media coding is MCC003.

just a little more info i forgot to add earlier, your MCC coded media is just fine~ media is NOT the culprit, your problems must arise from some sort of hardware compatibility issue.

Does your RecordNow have a program called DLA because this can conflict with your burner. It should be uninstaled

Here's what I found out about your HP drives.
Quote:
The 530 is Lite-On, the 630 is BenQ.
Both these should be capable of booktyping dvd+r/rw media to dvd-rom.

Yes, it only changes the format that the disc is recognized as to dvd-rom (most compatable format, same format that new, pressed, original dvd's are). I am not 100% sure that the booktype utilities will work on your burners since they are rebadged, but it can't hurt to try. It will either work or it won't. You could always crossflash your drives to lite-on and benq firmware respectively and then the booktype utilities would for sure work but I will leave that at your discretion. You can research those options here. http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61
