if the HDD clicks there could be something wrong with the HDD, but usually clicking comes from the dvd drive

The hard drive clicks? That is strange...
Sometimes people have loud loading noises from their hard drive, but never a clicking noise. So are you sure it is coming from your HD and not your Xbox drive?
Do you have an upgraded hard drive and if so, are you playing games off from it?

I had a hdd click before and slowly failed. as a matter of fact it was in my xbox, it was very weird because I was playing halo 2, then all of the sudden the screen went white and made a wierd noise. I rebooted then the clicking started. I let it rest and it stopped after a while and havent did it again since.

I agree, if someone just goes out a buys a new HDD or DVD drive without consulting anyone in these type of forums, it is possible they could be wasting their money. There is always that chance (usually a good chance) that someone will have a "fix" for them. Thats what forums like aD are for, they are a hub of knowledge!
