Ok, I was just wandering, because I'm so lost with all of these modchips, I'm not very apt at electronics, I was wandering if you guys could suggest the best modchip for me.I have a us PS2, V.10. I'm looking for something that is gonna be easy to use. I don't mind paying a lot, but for something that will work consistently. Preferably if I didn't have to do much at startup, and I wan't to be able to burn games and play them. I've looked at DMS4 EZI Pro, but also this HD Advance 2.0, but I'm not sure how it works. Can someone explain it to me. And if I did end up with a soldering chip, does anyone know of a good place where I can get someone to install it.
Thanks,
Colin

If you don't want to do the soldering yourself, then the two best options for you are probably:
DMS4 EZI Lite/Pro
or
HD Advance/HD Loader and hard drive
The DMS4 EZI is a solderless modchip, so you don't have to solder anything to install it, but you do have to completely disassemble your PS2 to get to the motherboard where you attach the clips for it. It took me about 2 hours to get it installed correctly, but it works well.
The HD Advance way means you need to buy a Hard Drive, the Broadband adapter (because that's what the hard drive plugs into) and the HD Advance or HD Loader discs. Then you just load your games to the hard drive and you can run them from there.
Wii baby!
PS2 V10 DMS4 EZI Lite Maxtor 120GB HDD - HD Loader 3.0
GC w/green LED mod
M3 w/1GB SDMini & X-ROM2 GBA 512MBit FlashROM
VZW LG VX9800 w/256MB miniSD card

Thanks a lot for replying. Now, I like this option with the hard drive, and I don't want to sound really stupid asking this, (I'm sure I will), but what kind of hard drive am I supposed to get? Like a computer hard drive, or do they have ps2 hard drives? Does this work well? Will I be able to play the majority of the games I want? Thanks,

Oh, and just making sure, Is the broadband adapter the same thing as a network adapter. It is isn't it? I KNOW that is a stupid question.

yes the broadband adaptor is the same thing as the network adaptor. All you need is a standard IDE computer hard drive over 40GB

a hd of 4gb wol hold about, lets say 8 or so games, so if you truly wanna go the hdload/hdadvance route, id recommend jus getting a large harddrive, bout 160 or so, unless you happen to have some 40s lying around, itll save you money from having to upgrade your harddrive if the 40 gets full.
but if you wanna go the modchip way, you can always send your ps2 off to a pro and have it done, but that will prob cost a pretty penny. but you can get more benefits from it in the end i think, but with harddrive approach, its alot easier. price wise, id say they would both be about the same, unless you can get some deals on the net which you usually can for a good sized harddrive. so you might end up saving 70 bucks or so

Thanks for responding. So I just get a like an external hard drive, like those you put in computers? Then I just decrypt games onto there and transfer? I couldn't hook the hdadvance up to my internal hard drive in my computer could I? Thanks for the response.

you could get an external hd, if you already have one lying around, but if your buying one, i say jus buy a internal one, itd be cheaper then one of the same size thats external, and itll be faster
and could you explain your last question a little bit more, im a lil confused

Oh cool cool. Yeah, I was just wandering. I just bought a 120 GB hard drive for my computer, so can I just use it? I mean, can I put the games on my computer? How exactly does it work.

its not hard, but once you format it for use with the ps2, you cant use it to save files and what not from the pc, unless you reformat, which will delete all the games on there. so pick or choose which one you wanna use it for. but if you use it for ps2, jus connect it to the network adapter, hopefully its a maxtor since these are the most compatible, and hopefully not a western digital, because these are alot of times uncompatible. once you connect it to the network adapter, jus push the hd/na into the hd bay and connect the na like you normally would.
hope that was clear, was jus typing random words as they came to me

Yeah sorry, I didn't really get any of that. However I have been reading a bit about it through some FAQ's, though I still have some questions. First off, the hard drive I'm talking about is like one that I use on the computer, and how would I connect it to the ps2? Through USB? Or do I need to buy another hard drive? I've never played online, so I don't know much about the network adapter either. Which will go in the back of the ps2? Also, if I end up getting this hdadvance, I'm still not sure how it works. I can put games on the hard drive, (through the computer?), and it will play these backup? Also I've seen that you can download games on the internet? Would these work on it? Sorry for all the questions, you've been extremely patient with me. I really really appreciate it. IM SUCH A NOOB.

ok, if its the same harddrive you use for your pc, then you'll need to buy a new one. you would connect it through the big slot in the back of the ps2 that is convered with a plastic piece when you buy the ps2. jus line... matter fact, heres the pfficial tutprial for installing. jus dont mind those two brackets on the side of the harddrive, it only comes with the official sony harddrive.
http://www.us.playstation.com/support.aspx?id=installation/hddinstallation.html
and about hdadvanced, you oculd put games on through the pc, itll be alot faster, but youll need winhiip in order to see it once you format the harddrive for ps2 use. you can also put games on the harddrive straight through the ps2. and yes, downloaded games would work with it, jus have to put it on through the pc, as your ps2 wont read it if its burned and you try to instal though ps2. hope this answers most of your questions, any more, jus ask

Ok, now that I'm back on. I think I may be starting to understand this, though I kind of need to go through the steps to fully understand it. Ok, so I buy an hard drive, a ps2 one? Just a regular IDD one right, like 100 GB. Then I buy a network adapter and also hd advance. I'm not familiar with the network adapter though. Does it set up on the ps2? Or do I put the hard drive in a slot on the ps2. Then through (USB?) I hook the hard drive up to my computer. I can then put games on the hard drive. And load them on the hdadvance disk on the ps2. What programs would I need for the transer of games onto the hard drive. Also, I was reading on all of these things you have to do for hdadvance, it seems somewhat complicating for a noob like me, Do I have to do all of that? Thanks in advance, I know I'm being an idiot. Thanks though for putting up with me.

Yep just get a IDE hard drive thats not a western digital (have problems actually fitting into adaptor) plug the HDD into the network adaptor and slide it into the expansion bay at the back of the ps2.(no computer needed nothing to do with USB either)insert HDadvance disc and go to convert insert the game you want to store on it and create a name for the game.Half hour later your done.(average convertion time)
And if you dont want to but HDadvance you can try out the memory card exploit with a fully patched HDloader.

Thanks for the response. I think I get it now. About the last part, what is a fully patched hdloader? Also, if I did have a ps2 game on my computer, could I use a usb to load it on to the hard drive?

Oh, is that a different thing from hdloader? I've heard HDadvance is a kind of runoff from hdLoader. Also, what is the hdd? You said plug it into the network adapter. Is HDD the same thing as the hard drive, and sorry, another question, does the hard drive have to be external? Or if it's internal, do I need something else to go along with it?

yes, hdd is the same as harddrive, and it would be faster load/transfer speeds if it was internal. and yes the network adapter hooks up to the ps2. no you wont need a usb cable, unless you wanna transfere your games from pc to ps2 harddrive externally, but itd be faster if you jus hooked up the ps2 harddrive to the pc and used winhiip to tansfer, only take a few minutes. hope this doesnt confuse you man. and a fully patched hdadvanced is the version of hdadvanced that lets you use big harddrives, over the size of 130 gbs, and if you have something like action replay max evo, you can skip buying the hdadvnaced disks and jus make a memory card exploit wth a ps1 game disk. i know i shouldnt have brough that up, hope you dont get confused, lol.

USBextreme has the ability to access USB hard drives. Im not sure if it can use IDE as well though.Because the ps2 uses USB 1.0 the transfer time is slower and games dont load as fast.
