Hi sorry if this has been asked a bit. Ive been searching for a while and i just don't know what terms to use as the obvious ones "modded, ntsc, pal" didn't yield anything eyepopping.
In either case here's my set up.
I have a v9 50001 Ps2 with DMS4 Pro. I also have the HDloader with hdd and adapter set up.
-----------------
with the above details said:
- Will my ps2 play PAL games with no troubles? (full color)
- Do i just need to buy a Multisystem TV or do i need to buy a converter to run from the tv to the ps2?
- ALSO, since it's modded, can i play DVD movies from other regions or does the chip only affect games?
I know i can rip the ISO off the disc and patch the PAL game to NTSC and use winhiip to move it to the harddrive but i'd like to avoid this as it seems very impractical.
Once again, i'd be so grateful if i could get this answered..
I just installed DMS4 EZI in my V10 yesterday, and I didn't have a chance to try this out yet, but I think you can play PAL games like this:
If you're using the Toxic BIOS you go into the configuration. There will be an option for video mode (or something like that) and you select it to always force NTSC mode. That way, the system will always output in NTSC, regardless of the game trying to switch output mode to PAL. It is supposed to have built-in color correction and size fix.
Read the info file for Toxic BIOS for more clarification.
toxic bios.. i heard about this, but i always thot this was an add on you need to do yourself? I'll read about it later when i get a chance but i did happen to check around the DMS site today and also talk to some reps.
Not sure about the others but dms4 lite and pro supposedly will force whatever game it is to play (so you are indeed correct). From what i heard, the color correction can be fixed by buying a multisystem tv (whcih was what i was gonna do anyway, since im moving into a new apt). Also, DMS makes your ps2 region free by default so movies are not a problem.
So yeah, basically i answered all my own questions lol but if someone sees an error or knows a more effective way please point it out.

It's not a physical piece you add on, it's software. You burn the image to a CD, and then you run that CD on your PS2 and it installs the Toxic BIOS software to your DMS chip. This process is called "Flashing the BIOS" or upgrading the BIOS.
The chip won't play backups of commercial games until you "flash" it with a BIOS of some type.
I see.. doesn't need to be dvd right? a CD is fine?
Is there a way to tell what BIOS im running because my friend did the chip install for me and he forgot what he used.
I know that if you alreay have the Toxis BIOS installed, it will say TOXIC underneath the PLAYSTATION 2 text when the game is booting. I don't know how to tell if it's a different version, but it will probably have a logo somewhere identifying it.
For Toxic if you hold down the Square button when the machine is turned on, then it will go to the configuration.
By the way, yesterday I went into my BIOS and set it to force NTSC video mode, and it booted a PAL video game and the colors and size were fine. So it will work with PAL games this way.
