When I was opening up my V10 PS2 to install my DMS4 EZI, I broke my fan connector (the connector on the motherboard) like many other people have done. To fix it I wired the fan up using a USB cable so that I could power the fan from the USB port in the front of the PS2.

Since it worked for me and I know lots of people have had this problem, I decided to write up a little tutorial for those who need to know how to do this.

No problem. I know that there are a lot of threads on the DMS forums about people who did the same thing, so I wrote the tutorial over there, then I decided to set up the web page with that info and share it here.

If the staff wants to include the tutorial (or a link to it) in one of the sticky threads, that would be fine with me.

i have that problem but here is my situation.i left my fan unhooked because the fan connector came off. i put everything else back together.when i hit the switch in the back the power indicator turns red as usual.when i turn it on from the front both lights come on but the screen stays black and when i try to open up the tray it just blinks but wont open. i tried to install a modchip.could this be the fan or did i wreck my system altogether.

I could be wrong but I don't think it's just the fan. The Playstation will run without a fan for a few minutes, then it will shut down (and I think the red light blinks.)

What you're saying is that it won't even start up. Your best bet is to go to the website of whichever chip you have, and try to get some suggestions there. DMS for example has forums, and probably some of the others do too.

Good luck.

It's not the fan.I removed the modchip and the game runs again without the fan.I installed the modchip wrong.I'm going to try reinstalling the modchip.

nice tutorial you also just hepled people with more then you know
if you think about it now you just told everyone how to power anything with the usb *i have done this with a small form factor pc that i wanted some extra fans on*

but one thing you might want to show people how to do is connect it to the inside lines *if that is posable* then you dont have the usb showing at all

That's a great idea, however after all the problems I had I don't ever want to have to open up my PS2 again. Lol.

The problem is that the fan is removable from the case, so if you solder the fan to anything then you won't be able to easily remove it if you need to get into the system again without de-soldering it. My way, you can just unplug it.
