DVD->VCD (with subtitles): Problems with pseudo-avi in TMPEnc

I'm trying to make a DVD->VCD conversion with subtitles. I got stuck when loading the 'pseudo-avi' into TMPGEnc. It get an error-message.
Some more info: I've selected the subtitles with VobSub. Then I run the VirtualDub frame server in the background (although it doesn't seem to do anything ?). Then I start TMPGEnc and browse to the 'pseudo-avi' as video-source. TMPGEnc gives an error when trying to open the 'pseudo-avi': The file can not be opened or is unsupported.
Anybody who can help ? Did I forget something ?
Note: I tried making a VCD without subtitles, and this worked without any problem. So, in my opinion, something goes wrong when making the 'pseudo-avi'. If only I knew what...
Kind regards,
Stef?

Go to TMPGEnc's Global Settings, select VFAPI Plug-ins Tab and increase AVI VFW Compatibility Reader's priority and you will solve the problem with pseudo-AVIs.

Thanks for the quick response !
I've tried several priorities, none worked unfortunately. I still get the same error-message. Some more info:
- I have VobSub 2.08
- In VirtualDub (version 1.4.9), I can see that the subtitles are added in the right frame.
- The pseudo-avi is only 52kb when created.
- The server-window has the 3 counters on zero.
- I use TMPGEnc 2.53.35.130 (Core version 1.84.130)
After adding the subtitles, nothing else needs to be running, before starting the server, right ?
Kind regards,
Stef?

Ok, try to save it (pseudo-avi) with .vdr extension as VirtualDub suggests and when you use TMPGEnc, use the file type drop down in opening window and select AviSynth/VirtualDub Script File (.avs, .vdr) and choose the .vdr you saved.
Let's see if it can be something this stupid that causes the problems :-)

Aha, we might get closer to the cause of the problem, because there seems to be no 'AviSynth/VirtualDub Script (.avs, .vdr)' available when I go browsing for the video-source ?!
When I select the '.vdr'-file via the *.* selection criteria, I still get the same error.
Thanx for the help,
Stef?

Damn. I install the 12a version with it's english patch. Then run it with the frame-server from VirtualDub in the background. Even after again increasing "AVI VFW Compatibility Reader"'s priority, I still get the error-message "File can not be opened or is unsupported". (I tried with both the '.avi' and '.vdr' extentions)
Is there a specific version of VirtualDub, that you could advise me, or should 1.4.9 be OK ? (Mainly to hopefully have a better-working 'frame server'-option...)
Kind Regards,
Stef?

I installed VirtualDub 1.3c, then re-installed VobSub 2.08 linked to this version of VirtualDub. It didn't help me either... Still that same error-message "File can not be opened or is unsupported" !...
(Desperate ;-) ) Regards,
Stef?

thx, I found it right after i posted this message, sorry bout that.
But it didn't help me, none of those things worked for me, but i did get an error about a file called "MSVCR70.dll", so after i copied that file in the TMPEnc directory it did work. Now TMPEnc accepts the *.vdr files. Maybe you guys can add this to that post?

Well, I found it on my pc, but not in the "system32" folder.
This is the folder it was in: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\VS Runtime", i copied it from there to the TMPEnc folder. I could upload it somewhere if needed, its only 300 kb.

Yes, that woked perfectly. One way you can get the dll by downloading a program called BootXP, download the version with the dll's then copy and paste into TMPGenc.
