Try to update it another time:
"You can always recover from a bad flash by holding the reset button until the blue eject light turns on. This will let you boot the upgrade disc to reflash your Infinity."

There's a chance you have a clone chip as the new firmware is programmed to not work or even kill some of the clone chips - so I've read anyway.

Only if you have a clone - with an original MI chip there´s a simple recovery procedure :)

This taken from their readme:-
Quote: UPGRADING INFINITY:
-------------------
- Insert the burned CD into the PS2 and press reset.
The CD should boot authomatically and you will be presented with the Upgrade sreen.
- Follow instructions on screen to upgrade Infinity.
- NOTE : You can always recover from a bad flash by hoding the reset button until
==== the blue eject light turns on. This will let you boot the upgrade disc
to reflash your Infinity.

My apologies - I´ve just read up the thread and saw you had already tried. The only thing I can think of, if you´re totally sure you have an original chip, is to email Luke at Infinity as they´ve always bee really helpful with any questions I´ve asked.
Their address is info[at]infinitymod.com

Did you try to reupdate with 1.45 or some older version of firmware?

I have the same problem with my slimline ps2 (Pal) after updating the firmware from my infinity chip from 1.39 to 1.46: the ps2 hangs at the (new) matrix boot logo. After I did the firmware update it said it programmed ok / successfully. So, it looked like it succeeded. But after that the matrix bootlogo keeps hanging, when I restarted the console. I tried an older version of the firmware as well, but nothing happens either, it just hangs.
Maybe I do not have an original chip then? I had the ps2 modded in a store. I do have some kind of guarentee, but I don't know if that is also valid for when you do a firmware upgrade. It should be though. O
I emailed infinitymod so, I hope to get a reaction soon for this problem. Kedz, did you get a reply from infinitymod, and what did they advise you to do? Anybody else got this problem as well?

He Kedz,
I brought my ps2 to the store I got it from today, there gonna look at it as well. So, we just have to wait. I asked them if it was a genuine matrix infinity they put inside, and they told me yes. But of course you can never be sure, until you see the chip itself. You saw the chip yourself (Actel Pro)? Well, let's hope there's a solution to this...We'll have to wait now I guess. I'll let you know when they find a solution (either infinitymod or the store)...

Hi Kedz,
You can look in this thread on the forum: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/144974
Look for the post with the pictures of the different Matrix Infinity chips (including the clones). I wouldn't exactly recommend you to open your PS2, but if you know somebody who can do it (perhaps a store), maybe you can check. What I read in this thread, tells me we might have a clone chip....:(

By the way, we should place this thread in PS2 hardware boot discussion...this part of the forum is for dvd-backups. Maybe we'll get some more reactions then ;)

Here's another person with the same problem in the general discussion forum:

Seems like the matrix team can't help either. I just would like to know if my chip is a genuine MI or not. Now I can't tell the store if they screwed things, or that it is a problem with the MI chip / firmware.

If you're chip dies after updating the firmware / changing the config screen then it's almost certain you have a clone chip and not an original matrix infinity.
The only solution seems to be to try and reflash but that's nearly impossible / buy a real MI chip and have that fitted then all future updates to the firmware will work.
I genuinely feel bad for the people that have updated thinking that they have an original chip because the installer has lied :(

He peeps,
Well, I just got my slimline ps2 back. This time it is fitted with the real Matrix Infinity. It turned out that there was a communication problem between the guy in the shop that modded the ps2 and the guy that sold me the ps2. By standard they fit in a Modbo chip in a new playstation. They used to have the infinity but switched a couple of months ago to the modbo, because it is cheaper for customers and does pretty much the same thing. Well, I disagree with them in this matter in terms of quality, but that's something else. My playstation is now fitted with firmware 1.46, so this must be the good chip. The shop was very kind and helpfull by the way and they corrected the problem very quickly. I genuinely believe this whole thing was not done on purpose.
O, by the way, here's the reaction of infinitymod after I told them about the problem:
Hi ....,
Sorry for late reply, I was out of town.
I am sorry to tell you that you have a FAKE infinity into your PS2.
Infact this issue happens with FAKE infinity chip like the modbo chip.
If you never saw the chip into your PS2, contact your installer and go to complain to him and ask him to open the PS2 in front of you and check if the chip is the Infinity or a cheap imitation.
If they sold it to you as Original Infinity, ask him your money back because they tricked you.
Who is the installer that made the job? Does he have a website?
Best Regards,
The Matrix Team
Luke.
Well, everything is fine now. For the people that where tricked with a modbo, I would recommend the things Luke suggests. Replacing the chip can be done without much trouble (wires are already there). Good luck to the people with this problem. A new chip (MI)is the only solution I'm affraid...Just ask the person that mods the chip to put on firmware 1.46 and you will now for sure that it is genuine..
