Wow, i am sorry to say this but wow. LOL, excusme me while i go laugh in my room. (5 mins later) OK here we go.
Step one: take network adapter,
Step two. Horizontaly push it TOWARDS the ps2 expansion bay.
Step three push it in all the way.
Step four. Take a penny, and tighten the left screw
Step five. Ok are you ready for this, screw the other screw in with OMG the Same Penny.

Icehawk - dont take the p*** he has clearly indicated that it is installed properly the two green lights are on meaning its connected

I would check your router/modem. I got this when i connected it to my router except the connection was fine and then it cudnt ping

if you've plugged it straight into your modem try turning it off for about 5 seconds and then back on again with your PS2 turned off once its ready turn your ps2 back on and try setting it back up again but delete any previous creations

how have you connected to the pc?

have you used a router of ICS (internet connection sharing), if you have used ICS then the cable supplied with the adapter is wrong and you need a cross over cable

but i doubt it is that because the lights are on meaning it is connected...

this is sonys advice

"Shut down the modem for one to two minutes and then restart the modem and connect the Ethernet cable to the Network Adaptor and attempt to create a Network Configuration file again"
