What type of video and how to combine?

I have two halves of National Treasure and I am trying to combine them to form one file. First of all, how do I do this and how can i determine whether the movie is an avi, mpeg, etc?

To join the files you could use AVI MPG WMV Joiner. You can download a 10 day trial version here http://www.tomdownload.com/multimedia_design/video/x_video_joiner... To determine what type of video files you have hold the mouse cursor over the file or right click on the file and select properties.
