Hi there,

DiskPeripheral : WDC WD800JB-00FSA0 nvatabus Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4081B nvatabus Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD-ROM DDU1621 nvatabus Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off
I see 2 things:

1. DMA is off on all your drives/hard disks.

2. Are you 100% sure you have properly set MASTER / SLAVE settings on your HD and burner ?

Nero reports PORT 0 ID 0 for both !

How are all those connected ?
What is on what channel ?

Also when you have fixed the DMA issue, and made sure your IDE stuff is properly configured, try burning at 2x and or 4x.

I noticed you tryed to burn at 8x.

You need to enable DMA back on or set it to "Ultra DMA Mode" and "DMA if available."

thanks for replying guys but I'm still in limbo.....so as far as what my drives are set to here it is:the HD is set to master on the primary ribbon...my burner is set to master connected to the first connector of the secondary ribbon and my DVD-rom drive is set to slave connected to the last connector on the secondary ribbon.....please correct me if this is wrong........now as far as DMA is concerned, you say mine is turned off....I have no idea how to turn it on.....if someone could tell me that would be great.....thanks

DMA

Finally, we need to check your DMA. "Ooohh, no you're not ! Only my husband or my Doctor checks my "D", "M" . . whatever . . ." No, no, it's OK, DMA stands for ""Direct Memory Access" transfer mode OR as we say in the computer field, it's a really, fast way to move stuff.

Many PC's today are using UDMA or Ultra Direct Memory Access transfer mode, or as we like to call it, a really super-duper fast way to move stuff as opposed to the PIO mode. The PIO or Programmed I/O mode, is a technique whereby the system CPU and support hardware directly control the transfer of data between the system and the hard disk since shortly after the beginning of PC's up until the mid-1990's. So we want DMA (fast) more than we want PIO (slow).

Let's check your Drive's transfer mode. It should be DMA-4, not PIO. Windows XP downgrades the Ultra DMA transfer mode after receiving six CRC errors and drops it down to the much slower PIO mode.

To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager
1. Open Device Manager
2. Double-click IDE ATA//ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels.
3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which your burner is connected and select Properties. Now click the Advanced Settings tab.
4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if available if the current setting says, "PIO Only."
If the drop-down box already says, "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the user must "toggle" the settings. That is, change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click "OK".Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to "DMA if available".

OPTION:

Right-click the burner and select "Uninstall" and then "OK" to all prompts until the PC reboots. Upon rebooting, the PC should "find" your burner and reinstall it, setting it by default to DMA.

ok when I try to fix my DMA...I Double-click IDE ATA//ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels and what I get is: NVIDEA NForce 2(tm)SPP/IGP ATA Controller......from what I can see none of my drives are hooked up to this....is this not my video card?(Nvidea).....anyway I right click on this and it does not even have an advance tab.....what do you guy's think?

oh yeah I also tried this:Right-click the burner and select "Uninstall" and then "OK" to all prompts until the PC reboots. Upon rebooting, the PC should "find" your burner and reinstall it, setting it by default to DMA. .....after I clicked uninstall I did'nt get any prompts....I had to go to "add hardware" and add it so I don't really know if the thing got reset to DMA mode
