ok, yes it is posible to have a second external harddrive. its even posible to have another internal harddrive (depending if you have upgraded the dvd-rom yet or not) to have an external hard drive you need to know how to make ide cables and how to use ether a razor or a router. depends on how you will cut your xbox. i think the best place to go to get the tutorials for this would be ether http://www.xboxhackz.com and just check out there tutorials. i think they got the best for that type of stuff. or go to http://www.xbox-scene.com and check out there tuts, they got some good ones to.
talk to you later,

if you plan on having both hd's connected to the ide cable at the same time, you will need to make a switch for the hd's...you can't run both at the same time, so the switch basically decides which hd will get the power and which will not.

just a quick one, probably a silly question, i replaced the xbox fan with a cool 8cm one with 4 diff coloured led's. I switched the fan speed with the 12v mod (split the black ground wire and taped it to the heat shield), noisy as hell by the way, but the led's shine much much brighter.

anyway, the fan blades face the same way round as the xbox fan did before it, but it blows a friggin gail out the back of the xbox, i assumed it would need turning around if thats the case as the gadgets inside would want all the nice air blowing over them....is this the case, do xbox fans and normal pc case fans spin the same way, am i talking out my ass...someone please advise before i take it to bits again and turn the fan round....

its just that i sat and watched the cpu temp go up right infront of me on the 'dashboard' settings screen.

regards...jim

ok here is an example
wire up a switch, plug your hd's in
hd 1 is your stock xbox hd
hd 2 is a upgraded hd

say you want to play on xbox live or run the retail bios, simply set your switch to boot your stock hd...but then you decide you want to play some roms, turn your xbox off, flip the switch and your xbox will now boot your upgraded hd so you can play the roms.

ok im here now:) ok first of all lets lay it out like this
{1}=your xbox motherboard
{2}= your xbox dvd-rom
{3}= your first harddrive
{4}= your second harddrive

{1}--------{2}---------{3}-------------{4}

{the power suply}

ok the ---- are the ide cables. goes to the mother board then the power to the dvd-rom comes from the motherboard. the power suply usualy only has one cable for the harddrive, so you need to make is so tehre is 2 and a switch on them. thats how you will lay them out. once you got them laid out both harddrives need to have their jumpers set to cable select. they need to have a dashboard of their own on them. so if you are like me i use a xecuter 3 mod chip and i have avalaunch on my first harddrive and i got some other dashbord on my other had drive. haveing daul harddrives is so if your first one gets full all you do is use yor second one for another harddrive. when your useing your second one all you do is use it like you used the first one, the only diff is it doesnt have the same stuff on it that you saved on it. to build a switch. hmmm? i am searching some sites right now for some tuts but havent got any yet. ill get back to ya as soon as i get some guides:)
hope this was some help,
pacman33
