Hi,
Don't shout at me if I'm in the wrong forum, I'll promise to be good and not annoy anyone.
My question is simple (I'm sure the answer won't be).........where do you start with this DVD copying (for backup purposes).

I have a DVD player, a Plextor Writer and plenty of time and all I want to do (initially) is to backup a DVD (I have Gladiator and thought that would be a nice starting point).
I don't have a clue about software, what kind of media to use etc, etc.

I'm sure these questions have been asked severla times and if anyone can point me to tutorials, web sites, fora etc I'd be very grateful.

There's only one problem...I'm kinda old (long time member of the Boring Old Farts club)..and really require plenty of help.

Best,
auldyin

For VideoCD-backups, which can be played back with your regular TV-pluggable DVD player later on, read this article from our site, it tries to go through the process with nice pictures and everything :-)

Auldyin,
Think the best way to learn about ripping etc is to read all the posts, ask about anything you are unsure of and then just dive in!
There appear to be a few different ways of 'ripping' but all follow the same sort of idea. I found that the 'combopack' (below) works for me.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/vcd_galaxy_dvdrip_combopack.cfm

straightforward and dare I say 'spanner-proof'

I think you'll find that this site (afterdawn) and another http://www.vcdhelp.com are great sources of information, once again, read all the posts and see if people are having the same probs as you, I learnt alot just from reading - there are alot of folk out there who REALLY know their stuff. Enjoy and don't be put off if you have probs at first. Post another question and I'm sure someone will help you.

Regards
Maze
