DVD slide show - strobing issue

I've put together a slide show (using Cyberlink Power Producer). When displayed on the TV (but not on the PC) most of the photos show a marked strobing effect. I think it's called strobing - thin, horizontal lines about the size of a scan line shimmer annoyingly. TV system is PAL.

Any idea what can be done to prevent this? I have an idea the solution is to degrade the quality of the photo before authoring, to match what a DVD can display on a TV.
