Playback Problem: Press Play, Skips in 15 min Intervals

I split a dual-layer movie into 2 discs. Problem is, when I play the first disc, the movie just advances all by itself to a movie frame 15 minutes ahead and will advance to the next frame until it reaches the last chapter. The disc will play normally on my PC. It just happens when I play it on my Sony DVD player. The second disc plays fine on both PC and standalone.
Has anyone seen this problem, know what's causing it, or how to fix it? My guess is that after a split, it's missing a chapter point and advances the movie looking for it. I'm using Verbatim media, so I doubt it's the discs. This happened on 'The Terminal'.
