About Xvid players, I don't know them sorry.
About 'xvid to avi' I cannot understand the question. A "Xvid movie" is an AVI file encoded using the xvid codec for the video compression , nothing more.

Not all XviD files are avi's. XviD is just a video codec and it can be used in numerous containers only one of which is AVI. You can also have a raw stream.

Some other containers that can handle XviD: mkv, mp4, ogm, nut, nsv and dsm.

@ Bob63 : WHAT did you wish to achieve. Is it not better to use a tool like vso divx to dvd to convert your file to a dvd movie file then burn it to dvd so that you can watch it on your standalone instead of changing it into another form of AVI.

I have " unleashed ", which is in "Bin" format, and " Kingdom of Heaven ", which is in "AVI" format, but I can't play it in windows media player or divx or realone. I have to use a play called VLC media player to play both. I want to watch these moives on my xbox media player. If the "AVI" format movie has a codec problem on windows media player, will it still work on the xbox media player?

I would suggest that you go to the microsoft site and upgrade your windows media player and try and then if the file doesnt play ,in the folder options in the control planel create an association so that the file will play

The raw AVI will not play on your xbox unless you convert it to an mpeg2 format which in essence is the format for dvd so that your discs will play on standalone dvd players.Your best bet is to convert the AVI to a dvd movie file using vso divx to dvd, then use your burning software to put it on disc.

XBMC being based on mplayer should support pretty much everything that VLC does, plus more. DVD menus are about the only thing that VLC can do and mplayer can't.

Have found this excellent codec download which covers pretty much 99% of all codecs you would need to convert movies with or so they state.

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

that is for the FULL PACK version 2.49....b4 installing make sure u tick all of the selections b4 fully installing the program.

Best of all..its FREE

Also, on another note was having trouble with an AVI movie file and found this program - GSpot is a free utility which identifies the codec required to play an AVI file and supplies other information as well.

GSPOT INFO

Establishes what video codecs (audio and video) are required to play an AVI file.
● Determines whether these codecs are installed on your system.
● Isolates problems associated with these codecs.
● Simple operation - Basic use: "File > Open", then read results

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

● Identifies download induced problems (truncated files, "cooked" files, etc.)
● Shows framerate, duration, aspect ratio, bitrates, AVI structure info, and more.
● Displays and allows editing of RIFF info (title, etc); displays "hidden" ASCII info.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

● Drag and Drop and "Send To" support, multi-file (batch) processing support
● Copy/Paste or text export GSpot information - format is user configurable.
● Built-in database of 350 video and 150 audio codec types
● Advanced UI including "dual-mode" and hyperlinked "persistent" tool tips

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

● Full support for OGG media files as well as AVI stream formats
● Identification (only) of non-AVI files (.mpg, .mov, .qt, .rm, .swf, .wmv, .asf, etc.)
● Supports VFW, ACM, DirectShow and DMO codec types (audio and video)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

● Win95/98/ME/NT/2K/XP
● No Install (optional), No spyware, No advertising, No registration

I would not recommend installing codec packs. Much better installing just what you need.
