I keep trying to turn this AVI file into a vcd or (more preferably) svcd compliant file using TMPGEnc. The audio is encoded in "Lame MP3" and the video is "XviD". I have downloaded the Kl-codec pack which seems to have everything covered... Now while I can play the AVI file and hear the sound very nicely, whenever I try to encode it in TMPGEnc and I goto Source Range, with View Audio selected, it shows no wave where the sound should be. After encoding, sure enough there is no audio. I have made a compatible file using a AVI that was "DivX" for the video and "Lame MP3" for the audio but for some reason this one refuses to work. It's an awesome clip though and I would really like to re-encode it... Anyone have any idea what might get the sound to encode?

Extract theaudio with VirtualDubMod as I described in http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/190445 and replace the audio stream in the AVI. Since you'll set Video___Direct Stream Copy on VirtualDubMod, only the audio will be corerectly encoded and the wideo will be tha same.

Buit..are you sure the audio codec is "Lame MP3"? What VirtualDubMod shows? Usually, only for .AC3 sound TMPGEnc gives no sound in the output.

Well when I open the file with virtual dub mod it asks me a question about rewriting the header. It says that it has detected an "improper VBR audio encoding source" as the reason to rewrite the header... What do I do about that? rewrite? or is that not supposed to say that...

It just seems like the codecs I have suck. I installed this K-lite mega codec pack thing which had like 30 different things listed and seemed like a good deal. I can play any DivX/XviD files with sound but when I try to encode them into any form of s/vcd file they get no sound. Previously, I had a XviD file encode with sound properly. It did show the sound wave in TMPGEnc however. Today TMPGEnc wouldn't even allow any of about 7 different AVI's that I had so I uninstalled the codec pack and reinstalled it. Now I have the video encoding again at least.. :( I am ATTEMPTING to remove the audio and re-encode A/V seperately but I've never done it before so I could easily be taking apart an already fine AVI and just be missing one stupid codec. :( Also I've done this on 2 different comps now with the same problems soooo I dont think that this is the only time this problem occurs.

Hi,

I had difficulties with xvid until I found a handy little program called "four cc changer". You can get it from doom9.org under AVI editing tools section in their downloads or just google search it. What it does is allows you to basically fool TMPGEnc Xpress 3.0 into thinking you have a DIVX instead of an XVID. You just open the program and click the box "..." and select the file. Then use the drop down menus and select DIVX for both the Four CC Description code and the Four CC User code. Click "Apply" and you are done. If you are still having difficulties with the codecs I downloaded a program called "media player classic" and I havent had a problem since.

Post back for more info if needed.
