The RIAA has released a list of "top offenders" in the AfterDawn.com site. This list includes over 50 names that the RIAA is planning on prosecuting to the full extent of the law. One of the names on this list was Jim Stechly.

MPAA has turned its attention to rapidly growing TV piracy and has sued six websites offering BitTorrent trackers for TV shows.

Games companies will be next on the bandwagon for sure,
They want to protect there products too.

What about this scenario...

You buy the original and back it up... then 6 months later you sell the original... do you still have an entitlement to own a backup?

if you sell the original, the law says the backup has to go with it. you're making a profit off the sale while still keeping the game to play...the prosecutors would see it the same as if you had kept the original and sold a backup.

You could also argue if your were trying to profit then why not sell the backup, by selling the original your losing out (Which i think would show you did not have the intent to profit) it would be easier to profit by selling backups, I think it's all down to them actually being able to prove that you sold to profit.

i believe what it really comes down to is ownership (duh, lol). if you have a backup of a game, but no longer own the original (even if you gave it away for free), you are in violation of the law and are fully prosecutable.
