Well im getting a 250GB hdd for my birthday and I was really considering one of those HDD loader programs for $30 but it seems the compatiblity isn't supposed to be that great... not from what I read here anyway:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/casey.miller/HD%20Loader%20Compatibi...

I was really excited about it until I saw that compatibility, half the games don't even work and a lot of the ones that work don't work right. Is there some other alternative to this that works with good compatiblity and a USB hdd or something that doesnt require a fliptop or a modchip? Thanks in advance.

its only the red ones that dont work, and it isnt that many!

ive got hd advance, but you can get hd loader for free which is just the same thing

ive had no problems with any games so far, just have to change the mode settings and thats it

do not get usb extreme, its new technology and less games work on it

best thing is hd loader is free, and you aint going to lose out if you use it

download hd loader from here, courtesy of stinky_1 from afterdawn

Right free sounds really good but two things.

# 1: Does hard drive loader work with USB HDDs?
# 2: How am I supposed to use something I download off the net on my unmodded Playstation 2?

Any sites where I can learn as much as I possibly can about modding a PS2. Do the PS2 have different mod chips for different versions of the PS2 like Xbox does? I want to know about solder and solderless mod chips and installing harddrives, burning playable emulated game disks and the such. Can any one help me out? Maybe pm me?

oops sorry, i answered that wrong so ill edit

simple answer is i dont know, with a copied disc ur goin to need a modded ps2 to read it. so i dont know the answer

but why do you need a usb hard drive? the hard drive will sit in the back of the console connected to the network adapter, you wont ever need to remove it

i wanted usb extreme then found out the compatability with games is crap

@novice

you want kind of a broad answer, best way is too use the search at the top

read up first then ask more specialist questions instead of everything about the ps2

The reason I wanted to use a USB HDD is because that is what I have. You forget that we can't all necessarily go out and buy new items (I.E. HDDs) because if this was the case I would just go buy a mod chip and pay somebody to install it. Thanks for the answer to my question it sucks that the compatiblity is so horrid. :(
