I have the new slim PS2 console and I was told that you can play backed-up (copied)PS2 games on it without a mod chip. If this is true, would someone tell me how to make backups of my games! What software do I need, and what type of DVD media do I need? I have DVD decrytpter, Alcohol 120%, Nero,Clone DVD2....Someone please help, thanks.

PS2 games are actually pressed DVD/CD discs, they are not burned. PS2 games use the Burst Cutting Area (BCA) of the disc to identify themselves to the PS2 unit. The BCA is not part of a disc that you can burn on, it is only replicated on pressed discs.

So, the only way to play backups is to get boot-discs or a mod-chip.

With the boot-discs (swap magic) you need a 'tool' to open
the tray without pressing eject for the backups to work.

Here is my ver7 with a fliptop kit added to use my swap magic disks

As far as making backups once you have swap magic disks (or a chip installed)

The tutorial is here.

I use dvd decrypter on good media (verbatim or fujifilm +r)
And burn at 2x speed.
