v12 burnt reader, bought new, burnt in 5 secs, wot now ?

I have a v12, It was dropped but still worked. Unblocked it with Matrix and the reader burnt. So I took off the chip, bought a new reader, installed it, measured the resistence all ok. turned it on didnt read, smelt dodgy, and the bloody reader had burnt again. I dont think there is an LA chip on the v12, but is there an equivelent? I have no shorts on the board checked many times. I will buy another reader on Monday, but I dont want to burn it again, what can I do ?
