Ok, I've downloaded and installed Sonic MyDVD Studio deluxe 6.1 and authored and burned my first DVD which plays ok on my 2 cheap DVD players (Tangent/Eltax).

No big surprises there because they'd both play a beer mat if it had video data on it. The problem is that I tried the DVD in my brothers Mustek DVD player and it recognises it as a DVD but won't play it.

So I put the DVD back in my PC and tried to read it with DVDShrink and it says it has got an invalid DVD navigation structure so it can't read it.

Any ideas how I can get round this because I want to author DVDs which will play in most other DVD players.

NeroVision Express makes DVDs with the correct structure but the menus aren't as good. This is why I'd like to use Sonic MyDVD 6.1 instead.

Any ideas if there are any settings which can be adjusted in MyDVD to overcome this problem ?

Maybe try something different From Sonic MyDVD as it is Not Known as a particularilly good DVD authoring program...I use DVDLab pro and it has some of the Best menu features of any DVD authoring program but it also doesn"t have a Built in encoder Like most all Good DVD authoring programs so your Files will have to be in Mpeg-2/DVD format before you use the program to author the files to DVD....

I've got DVDLab too but apart from having to make sure that files are in MPEG2 format before you manipulate them it's also not possible to trim frames from the start of a movie clip with it as far as I can tell. This is a real pain because I'm copying my videos onto DVDs by recording them with my WinTV card software (which records MPEG2) and it's not easy to get a neat start point for recordings so I usually want to trim from the beginning and end.

NeroVision lets me do this but the menus aren't very flexible even though the DVDs are very quick to knock together. DVDLab would be good if it let me trim from the beginning of a clip because it gives you total control over the movie menus and allows you to link clips together etc.

Do you know how to trim from the start of a movie clip in DVDLab ??

You Cant, but that is not the Job of a DVD authoring Program...If you want to edit mpeg files then get a Mpeg editor Like Mpeg2VCR which can do frame accurate editing.....

I downloaded VideoRedo which allows me to edit MPEG2 files and will give that a go. If it does the job (as it appears to), I'll get a licence for it and use that along with DVDLab.

I suppose I'll have to use MyDVD for other things now as it doesn't look to be as good as I first thought. As I mentioned, the DVD's it produces will play in my 2 DVD players but not in my brother's (which has no probs playing DVDs produced by NeroVision for instance)

Well I have never Had a problem with any of the DVD"s I have Made with DVDLab pro which will also Let you make DVD"s from SVCD and VCD Mpeg files without re-encodeing the Files...This way you can fit 3 or 4 Full Movies on a single DVD-R which is Pretty Handy if you want to Back up your VCD or SVCD Collection to DVD or if you want to Fit as Much Video on a DVD as Possible and still have the Quality Be Pretty good with even up to 6 hours on a DVD.....

Cheers
