i hope somebody can help me ,i have internall & externall dvd writers but now neither of them will copy on to dvd discs they copy cd's & play dvd movies but if i put in a blank dvd disc it wont recognise it & the icons for the dvd writers just changes to CD.steve

you just bought a new bacth of the same discs? or anew batch of diferent discs?

Uninstall the devices in Device Manager and reboot, let windows reinstall them and see if that solves it............

hi thanks for the replys,to answer your questions i have used the same discs for a while with no problems before & i have tried 2 different kinds of discs with the same results ,& i tried unistall the device & reboot but got the same results i am starting to think it could be a virus i have picked up though my norton anti virus did not detect one.

Run a scan, and also visit http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp for an online scan which is free, and also quite good aswell.

How long have you had the devices?

Have you tried to update the firmware at all with either of them?

i will visit the web site you sent for a scan,i got the externall drive 2 days ago it did not come with drivers it justs installed them from win xp,i was wondering if my drivers in XP for the dvd writer has become corrupted ,my internall drive is the one that came with my computer which is a HP t340 uk & my internall dvd is a HP300c.also i do not have any XP discs it is all preinstalled.
