I've looked around the forums and didn't see this exact issue, although I'm sure somebody reading this knows something about it.

My PSTwo v12 won't spin any disk - backup or original, movie or game, it doesn't even try. It just goes to the browser as if the cover wasn't closed. I've been using swap disks for backups and it was working a few weeks ago, which is the last I tried.

Could this be a damaged laser? Does anybody know what might be the problem? Thanks in advance.

Are you using a 'slim tool' or a 'ghost switch',
If not im curious as to how you were switching
using swap magic.

Could it be that the 'tool' somehow has stopped
the pstwo from reconizing the cd-tray is closed.

Therefore the disk wont spin.

A damaged laser won't stop the disc from spinning. Either you:
a) Are using the Magic Kit and the PS2 always thinks the lid is down
or
b) You have a damaged motor.

I've gone through THREE of the new slim PS2's, and I got all pissed off at EB, so they refunded me my money and sold me an OLDER MODEL PS2. The bulky ones may be bigger, but they're MUCH more reliable -- plus you can put a hard drive inside and use HDAdvance with it.

Thanks for the feedback ... Well, I guess I was using the "superglue hack" on the two points inside of the console and the disk brake. It should think that the lid is always closed. Maybe this is a boneheaded question, but isn't that what it's supposed to think? Anything I can do if I have a damaged motor?
