I think a D/L forum would be very informative, for those who know little about it. [like me]
It would also allow; members with genuine questions a focus point, and not get them lost in the ad lib maelstrom of the other DVD forums.

Well I think is a good Idea, but lets think about it when double layer dvds are circulating more, so we can assure the forum will get post, although for now we can use the DVD-R Media to cover this topics, when double layer DVD start circulating more when it will probbably best to add forum focused on this topic.
This is what I think I dunno other mods or admins*

unless I'm missing something ... what needs to be discussed about DL?
for dvd backups it's a straight rip and burn. With other programs that use compression, there are different settings people like to use.
This guide for DVD Decrypter is doing dvd5 to dvd5. The same guide can be used for dual layer (dvd9 to dvd9), since DVD Decrypter now supports dual layer.
And the purpose of backing up to a dual layer disc is so you don't have to lose any content while using no compression. Rip it, then burn it.

Yes although a forum focusing on that topic is not needed I think much can be discussed about DL, technology it uses, compatibility issues, speeds, new thecnologies arising for this media (Like DVD-R DL), experiences with this media, etc, although this topics can be discussed in the actual forums, maybe in the future a forum can be focused on DL media if needed.

AterDawn has a forum for 'most' of the major forms of media.
There is little doubt market forces are driving complete newbies to buy D/L burners and media.
I've noticed the number of D/L questions increasing, and some of the answers miander between miss-informative and diss-informate.
The average newbie, who having been sold his D/L burner, clutching his
£2.00 (UK) D/L discs,
want to use them. They may also may need to discuss problems that they believe only apply to D/L burning.
.Example. You said DVDDecryper supports DVD9. I doubt most newbies have never heard of DVD Decrypter, let alone DVD9
.Example. I said £2.00 a D/L disc UK I doubt the average salesman lets them leave the store at that price
So if not at this moment, I believe a D/L forum should be given serious consideration.

I know it's labeled DVD-R media, but do where do you think members post questions about DVD+R media? In the media forum :)

Most errors would be cause from burning too fast or player compatibility. Do we really need a forum to tell them to check www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers ??

I've got some DL discs, haven't used them yet. But from what I've read it's as simple as rip and burn. Use DVD Decrypter to rip in ISO mode, then use DVD Decrypter to burn in ISO mode. If a newbie has a no clue about using DVD Decrypter is just like a newbie asking how to copy a dvd5 to a dvd5. I just don't see the point.

I think we're coming from the same direction, the only advice I've given a complete newbie about D/L was learn how to burn 4.7 first.
I'm not convinced that thread wasn't a wind-up but, if it was genuine the newbie he was certainly being lead up the garden path by an AD addict.
Hence my suggestion, .re. a D/L forum. :)
BTW I made a typho when I said £2.00 for a D/L disc, they're a penny under £3.00

How about a DL sticky in the Advanced or Newbie Forum? That would keep the subject alive without adding an entire forum for a topic that as of yet doesn't warrant the time and effort involved in doing so.

I burned my first DL last night, and it worked. Backed up Star Wars The Empire Strikes back with DVDDecrypter in Iso read and write at 2.4x using Ritek DVD+R from supermediastore. Ran it through the QA Plextools test for quick verification and the disk quality came out as good. Started playing it in my Sanyo standalone and got stutters, so put it in my Panasonic DVD Recorder and it played right through, the video looked really good on 52 inch TV, and the sound was fantastic. If the price ever goes down on this media I will use it a whole lot more, but right now 6.00 a disk is too high. Right now I just bought a couple to experiment with, and at least I know that Decrypter will burn with no problems. My two cents :~)

Yeah, too expensive. DVDXCopy will make good quality backups onto DVD-R disks - DVD-R is the most compatible format and they are usually about as expensive as blank CD-Rs. Works for me.

Im with Nephilim, we should add a sticky in the advanced and newbie DVD forum, about price anda availability, Imagine I live in Colombia (YES ITS COLOMBIA NOT COLUMBIA :@!!!!!!!!!) although I can find DVD-R at 50 cents and CD-R at 25 cents each, the Dl disc made by Imation(Brand which personally I dont like) at 12 dolars each, I prefer buying 24 DVD-R than buying a DVD+R DL that holds 8.5 gbs, although I may probbably be buying for experimenting, but until these disc are at least at a dolar and half I will not buy them, I hope these disc star sinking prices before the DVD will be replaced (although this is not likely to happen, but still ;)

Good point, that is why we have a media forum for, and for newbies that dont know even know what a DL is we can add it in the newbie forum, while advanced forum people will know how to handle this info without routing to a special section ;)
