I'm using Optodisc -R disks but nothing works. I've tweaked my laser but without success. So now i'm wondering: can you use -R disks?

Hey dude, try using MAXELL or RITECH mini dvd-r's. I've used both and I haven't had a single problem EVER. No lazer tweak no problems what-so-ever.

Knowledge is power. Power makes everything and everyone work. Now then, let's work with each other.

i'm using Optodiscs -R minis and i get perfect results.

I am using a Sony DRU-720 burner at 1X with a firmware update.

I have had next to no DRE's.

The GC actually plays DVD+R's better, but can read + and - r's.

Well according to all compatibility lists the optodiscs don´t even boot. That´s my case for sure as well, you are the first one to report it working, could you plese run the DVD Identifier http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/dvd_identifier.zip and check the Manufacture ID?
Thanks.

A friend and I bought a bunch of optodisc mini dvd-r's from tigerdirect. For him they work great (he does get the odd DRE) and for me not so good.

I could not burn readable discs with LG and Sony DVD-RW drives (neither of us could read them). The discs my friend burned with his older Pioneer DVD-R worked for him, but on my system I would get DRE's constantly (on discs that work well for him.)

The difference _seems_ to be that I have a DOL-101. But who knows it could be a number of things.

The success with Optodisc mini DVD-R's is related to both the burner and the Cube (not sure if it's the DOL-101 or the laser revision).

I have since purchased a case and with full-size Ritek G05 or just about any DVD+R brand (including Optodisc) and have no DRE's whatsoever.

I think it may come down to a matter of format and drive. I was using an older Pioneer drive a DVR-A04, it is close to 3 years old, nothing would be readable on the GC. I purchased a new NEC ND-3520A and I can now use my Optiplex disks although from time to time I do get a Read Error.

with mini's you'll always get the odd DRE, Yes it greatly depends on your burner, the speed you burn at and the quality of the media. I had some el-cheap-o dvd that split in half in my burner, the reflective surface would seperate from the writing surface.
