What method does everyone use to clean discs?
I heard of a method using toothpaste, lol. I heard you can easily get rid of scratches using it.
What are all those companies offering to restore your discs to the "brand new" condition actually using to do so? They charge very little for it anyway.

They probably use Disk Doctor or something like it. That's what i use if my disks are scratched. If my disks are dirty i'll just use warm water and mabey soap to clean it.

don't use toothpaste as it will scratch the cd/dvd disk unless it is a gel toothpaste maybe. dish detergent, warm water & a very soft cloth

I normally use rubbing alcohol, which is what they sell people at the store in a little bottle over priced to be honest.Disk Doctor for scratches and if the discs are dirty I use a memorex automatic cleaner.I manually use the disk doctor though, don't ever go the wrong way when cleaning or repairing scratches. You should always turn in a clockwise motion. If you turn counter clockwise it will make the discs useless.I often hear people say that disk doctors will damage the discs, but it is actually the people who should be faulted for not following the directions right. All I can say is be carefull when fixing scratches using a disk doctor.

1
use a soft cloth and rub from the center of the disk to the edge of the disk, never rub circumfrential as if it scratches ir could be wrecked.
2
using a soft cloth and a bit of cheap aftershave you can remove paw marks from the disks, wipe afterwards with a dry soft cloth.
3
if the disk is scratched you could use the soft cloth, some cheap aftershave and sometooth polish or toothpaste, this will however scratch the disk but will usually allow you to get the computer reading the scratched sectors, wipe afterwards with a dry soft cloth.
you sould also try using cotton buds and some cheap aftershave and sometooth polish or toothpaste.
I've used the above successfully to rescue several DVD's.
I use tooth powder as I have some in the garage and it's not too abrasive for use on DVD's.
I use the cheap aftershave as I don't have any ISO alcohol and it's cheap

it was just gross, but not in a dirty way, it was just not on - the state that the disc was in i mean. I can't remember what the disc was , but it still played, i just couldn't copy it (it may have been an audio cd, really can't remember)

For scratched discs I've actually been able to use car wax. Works wonders once you buff the wax off. I would think it'd be better than using toothpaste, but then again, never really tried that.

I agree, Maiden Rock :P
It's way better than the stuff they call "Music" nowadays anyway, it's all just artificial.
