Hi. I've got a 1.1 with a samsung that will not play backed-up games or most burned movies with evox and unleashed x installed. ( i know the legality's of it...these truly are my games and movies)

My Questions:

If I download the Samsung firmware update from xbins, will his fix my problem?

and

What is the process for installing the firmware update if it will work ( i do know how to connect to a pc)

or

If that will not fix the problem, and I install the Philips drive...will that work?

Just to be curious, if all else fails, how much could I expect to pay for a professionally modded box?

Thank You

the firmware is for the pc version so that you can use it in the xbox....and if I remember you have about 2-3 wires that you have to solder onto the main PCB. I would say if you're having troubles with your sammy, use the philips till you get it all resolved.

will swapping out the sammy with the philips make my problems go away?
i have no problem buying the philips drive if it'll work. i did see a modified samsung on llama.com. Basically i am easy. Tell me what to do that'll work...i'll do it.

Thanks.

the only other things I can think of is either your samsung drive is starting to die on you or it's the media you put 'some' of the games and movies on. If you have games that work in your machine on the same brand and type of disk as a game that doesn't work....that is ruled out as a problem. If your samsung drive IS failing on you and is about to die,I would say if both the modded pc dvd drive and the philips are about the same price...go for the modded pc drive. If the modded drive is way too much for you, then go for the philips. The philips won't play cd-r's out of the box....although there's a 'tweak' that you can do to it,it's not 100% going to work for you. If it DOESN'T work for you....you migh be buying another dvd drive.

So check to see if you can rule out the media question, and if it still seems to be the dvd drive at fault...I would try to get the sammy modded pc drive if you can. If not,the philips would have to do.

will a modded sammy dvd drive work right out of the box, or will i have to install drivers into the xbox?

I know it is not a media issue, as I have already ruled that out.
I am going to try replacing the drive, but if that doesn't work I guess i'll be either sending it out or buying an already modded xbox. Anyone up to the task of moding my machine? how much.

There shouldn't be any drivers that would have to go into the xbox.
