About at wits end here. I'm trying to backup my copy of Sim City 4, and I haven't used BIN or CUE files before, but I gained a lot of knowledge about it online. The problem is, when I go ahead and have either Nero or Blindwrite create an image from the Cue file, after it is done burning, the computer doesn't read the disc. However, I know it's burned because I can tell from the bottom of the disc. Anyone else experiance this problem?
Sim City 4 is a new protection and I'm guessing Safedisc 2.9 maybe. I recommend using CloneCD and for read settings, read at 4x (all) with nothing checked except fast error skip=on. In write options, tick "always close last session" and write at 4x. Play the backup in your dvd/cd-rom as the cdrw can't get around ATIP unless you tick the "hide cd-r" option.
I forgot to mention you can use a tool called Safedisc Analyzer to determine what version of SafeDisc is on this game. Install the game then load Safedisc Analyzer then locate the game exe on your hd. Be sure when you go to the CloneCD website to look at supported drives and locate your cdrw brand name. Look under EFM Encoding and see if your brand name has 2 sheep, or 1 sheep. if you have a 2 sheep burner (writes regular bit patterns correctly), then you'll have NO problems backing up this game. if you have a 1 sheep burner (writes regular bit patterns ALMOST) correctly, then you'll need the help of "hide cd-r" to play the backup in your cdrw. There are 3 DVD-Roms that I'm aware of that can get around the ATIP factor that can play Safedisc 2.8.1 (The Sims Unleashed) and these are: LiteON LTD 163/165 and Toshiba SD-M1402. Basically if I were to burn this game with my Polaroid BurnMAX48, I can play the backup in my Litey LTD 165H with NO problems.
Ok, I went ahead and looked at the .exe for the game (v2.80.010 SafeDisc), but I'm not sure what I do with that. My friend has the disc itself right now, so I only have the .bin and .cue files for the disc, however, CloneCD only burned images from .ccd, I think. Also, how would I do the "hide cd-r" function you mentioned? Thanks a lot for the help.
Install IsoBuster and as you install, choose ALL associations (formats). Your bin& cue file(s) should be CloneCD compatable to burn. Until you let me know what brand name cdrw you own, I can't give you the write settings m8.
