There's probably more than one thread about this. But I have this problem with "Avi" file playing on my DVD player (SEG Divx 570), which doesnt support qpel.
Usually I would use Dr. Divx to get rid of the problem, but below and behold next error:
"VSfilter: DirectVobsub: IPersist STream is no longer supported". So I still tried to encode the file. Now video and audio are now out of sync.
Anybody an idea of how to get around the problem? and keep it simple please I'm thick (lol)

Try VirtualDubMod. Select XviD or DivX and make sure that you use a DXN Home Theatre Profile.

I tried using VirtualDub and took the step explained in this tread:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/165637

Now the video and audio are completly out of sync.

As I am a newbie to VirtualDub could you explain how I can do the DXN home theatre profile.

Thanks

I have the exact problem, and I am a newbie on encoding, I have never done it. What is the best/fastest way to reencode the file w/out the QPEL?

I think I have solved the prob follow the instructions on the above thread, it turns off the qpel but just re- or fowardwind the file and then, if you are lucky (lol), the sound won't go out of sync.

WOW, dat method worked! Thanx! Another question, I noticed it compressed the file about 1/2 the size. How can I keep it at almost the same size so it can have better quality? Thanx!

You need an XviD 1.1.x build to use the DivX HT profiles. If you have the audio set to direct streaming and don't change the VBR header (if it is VBR mp3) then it should stay in sync, although I guess it is possible that there is a delay value that gets lost along the way.

To get the same size, use the same bitrate and do 2 passes. Also the DXN VBV settings won't be used unless you run 2 passes.
