v3 ps2 with dms4 lite - won't recognize dvd-r game

I just installed a dms4 lite into my v3 ps2 yesterday. I upgraded the dms4 lite bios with a cd-r, so I know that it will recognize cd-r's at least. My ps2 has no problem reading dvd-r movies, burned at any speed. However, I can't get it to recognize a dvd-r game (keep getting red screen). I've tried Ritek DVD-R G05 media (burned at 4x), and Verbatim Digital Movie DVD-R media (burned at 1x, 2x). This is with a pioneer dvr 108 burner. Am I using the wrong kind of media? Is my laser too old? Or could my modchip be installed improperly? Any advice would be great.

By the way, the games I've tried are Tekken 5 (ripped using dvd decrypter), and Alien Hominid (downloaded iso).

your modchip might have a ps1 mode and a ps2 mode.if it is in ps1 mode it will not play ps2 games and vice versa.check the hompage or elsewhere online to find out if yours is this way and how to switch modes if it is.

Well, I took apart the ps2 again, cleaned the laser off, and turned the angle of it slightly....it now reads dvd-r games, but during gameplay, the ps2 will turn off suddenly and the reset button will have a quickly flashing red light.....any idea what that means?

you might have yanked the reset ribbon out a liitle bit when you took off the cover.
