I know this question has probably been answered before but there are too many threads and I need some help please. I just got a PS2 model SCPH-39001 used. I'm interested in getting a Hard drive and the HD loader for my games and backups. I have already the Ethernet & Modem network adpter and I'm looking what to get for my hard drive. Can I get a normal IDE HD 120 GB or 80 GB and use it with my PS2 and Network adapter, and the HD loader? or do I need the official ps2 HD with FFXI?

If there is a thread that explains that...send me the link please...I appreciated..
Thanks

Alemonty

yes you can use a normal pc hdd in your ps2, best brand is a maxtor and the hdd has to be over 40gb in size, do not buy a western digital because you have to mod the network adapter because they dont physically fit

all you need is a hdd, network adapter, a hdd, and hd loader or hd advance

you can hd loader FREE from here

http://members.shaw.ca/PS2_BOOT_CD/

and the fitting instructions for a hdd are here

http://www.ps2nfo.com/hddfaq.html

anything else just ask

hope this helps you

Thanks a lot...this clears a lot of things for me...just one more thing...can I save game progress in the PC HDD? So I don´t have to buy any more memory cards? and I saw that some games are compatible with the HDD not all...is that true?

yes thats true, the percentage is good but some dont work, but eventually chances are they will do, some one will create fixes for them

and the only way to save progress onto a ps2 hdd is with an original one, ie the one with final fantasy

As far as i know this isnt possible with a pc hdd in a ps2

Too bad...I can get enough mem cards...but I think 40 gigs will be enough for games and game progress...
How about with backups? is there a conflict with the HDD when playing backups? or playing online? Which modchip is better with the HDD?

not there isnt any conflict, some games dont work at the mo because there new, so patches need creating by very clever people out there!

most games work thought. you dont need a mod chip to put original games onto the hdd, you do however need one, or swap magic for putting backups onto the hdd

i used swap magic and have no probs
