When burning PS2 DVDs from the original DVD, they never seem to play as smooth as they should. At first I thought it was because of the PS2 laser, so I cleaned it with Alcohol - yet they were still jittery with the sound, it'd usually skip ahead of the video becoming out of sync. Most notably in Xenosaga 2, Shadow Hearts 2, and Star Ocean 3.
Then I decided to buy a new PS2, so I bough the slimline, and retested the DVDs, but alas the same problem occurs.
I burn using Ritek G04 media on a Pioneer DVR-108 drive. Is it due to partial incompatibilities with the drive and media? Or could there be another problem somewhere.
Ps. I burn at 1x using DVD Decrypter.

Try burning the game at 4X and see how it works. From what i heard those discs are good but i have never used them myself. Sometimes it is because a burner has outdated firmware, if it is an older model and you have never checked for updates.
I use both TDK 4X DVD-R and Philips 8X DVD-R (with my V7) and they work great. Philips is the better of the two.
Usually choppy audio or video is due to the media. If you get a good burn it will work just like the original did.

Ok thanks alot guys, I've ran out of DVDs at the moment, so when ordering more, should I buy Ritek knowing they've caused problems on the chance of them being fine at 4x, or just go for another quality media brand?

This is like the other Thread on this board. Tial and Error, find what works for you.... I burn at 8X on a cheap media and have no problems. I dont use cheap media b/c I'm being chead but b/c thats what I found that works best for me. Sometimes what you pay for is not what you are always getting.

" it may work for a while. then the laser will die cuz of cheap media"
I second that
Your laser has a harder time reading games burnt on cheaper media and it will wear it out faster. Not saying it will burn it up any time soon, but faster than if you used better media. I have also heard people say that the cheap ink wears down quicker and that games may stop working after a while.
I use Philips 8X DVD-R which are great
and TDK 4X DVD-R which also work real good.
It is very very rare that a game i burn doesn't work.

Plextor - excellent burner
NEC - great burner at a great price
Pioneer - great burner
LG - good burner and burns DVD-Ram
LiteOn - good burner at a good price
BenQ - good burner at a good price
the top 3 are my choices with my choice going to NEC for value and burn quality
LiteOn's are not that bad
LG seems to have good specs, pretty well rounded burner

Why do so many people have problems!
I use a 16x Nec DVD burner
8x Sony DVD-R
Max speed
DVD Decrypter to put the disc information on to the computer
CloneDVD2 to put the ISO on the blank disc
Better yet use Stomp RecordNow Max 4.5, fastest burning program
My PS2 has the DMS4 Chip and I have not had a problem yet.

I dont know why so many people have trouble with this stuff. I was never into the Playstation 2 till they came out with the PSTwo Slim....so i got mine 2 months ago. I already have a clear case for it, and i drilled holes above the fan slots for better air circulation, also i have Swap Magic 3.6. Every PS2 game Ive burned so far was read and written at 2x and the media im using is Verbatim DVD+R 1x-8x 4.7 GB, and my burner is a TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E and I have had no problems with the backups, they all work flawlessly. The games ive burned so far include... Dragonball Z Saga, Enthusia, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, Tekken 5, Predator Concrete Jungle, Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition, Mortal Kombat Deception, Killzone, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater, and The Punisher. I havent had to patch any of the games or rebuild. There all copied to my HDD, and then burnt right back to a DVD+R.

Yeah, i don't have any problems with games using DVD Decrypter
Most people have problems due to cheap media.
Or using external burners. Or not knowing that they need to mod their system to play the back up's
And i would add Sony DRU-700A to DRU-720A to the burner list.
It work great for all types of media including dual layer.
