Hi
I'm new at this so bear with me....
First of all, I have a xp sp2 pc, and lately I have been sent many mpg files from a friend. I couldnt play any of them at first, then only the odd one or two from them. After doing some research I thought I might not have a MPEG-2 codec, so I downloaded WinDVD, and I was still not able to view them. I know that these files are fine cos my friend was able to play them, and there were too many of them for all them to be corrupted. So I used AVIcodec and GSpot so I can find the right codec. To my surprise both said that it seems that they are ASF files and has UNKNOWN video codec....so I couldnt figure out which codec to download.
What I cant understand, is why some mpg files would play and others wouldnt (the majority wouldnt). I tried BSplayer and Windows Media Classic player. Keeps giving me "file failed to render" in WPC.
I have Windows Media Player 10, which keeps giving me :
error C00D1059
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player does not support the format you are trying to play". Even right clicking the files while in WMplayer has a blank/dash for the video codec space.
I'm sorta running out of solutions....any ideas would be appreciated.
